ayrdaomei: ([Disney] ENG - Kuzco)
([personal profile] ayrdaomei Sep. 6th, 2006 09:31 pm)

1.) I was so sure ESPN was gonna jinx by going to live coverage. Every time ESPN goes to live coverage of something, I think of Bartolo Colon throwing that no hitter against the Yankees and losing it one batter into ESPN's live coverage.

2.) But in retrospect, I am so thankful to ESPN for cutting back to Florida for the top of the 8th and 9th innings ^_~

3.) I am so irritated ESPN cut away during the celebration to go back to a Boston-White Sox game that is a complete BLOWOUT and that is already being televised on WGN. GO BACK TO FLORIDA.

4.) I walked all the way over to campus to post about this, because holy hannah, you guys. I love this team. That shot of them surrounding Anibal on the mound, a mass of pure joy. Man, if I get to see a Wild Card celebration after seeing that, it's just icing on the cake at this point.

I could not adore this team more. I stood by the window in my apartment and managed to get enough of a cellphone signal to call [Bad username or site: phantom_hpuff / @ livejournal.com] and squee. I am so happy for Anibal, so thrilled for every single one of them.

From: [identity profile] scornedsaint.livejournal.com

Dammit! I wish I was watching the game, especially since Anibal is My Adopted Marlin. Alas, I have IB-related crap, but thanks so much for keeping us posted!

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

I only got to see the bits of it that ESPN cut to. Just as well; I was nervous enough just seeing two innings!

The Post had the hugging picture on the front page (below the fold) of the sports section and, I believe, inside too! Yay for the Fishies!

shame you cant get FSN

its going to be repeated at 3.30am thursday,
im going to try to record it, shame it is not on available on the FSN site,
do you know if the MLB site allows reruns,

it was a great game watching it on tv, was there yesterday but couldnt go today

baseball is good

Re: shame you cant get FSN

I know! I wish I could get FSN:/ If you have an MLB.tv account, you can rewatch games from this season, or you can buy a download of the game for $3.95. If they archive the Florida broadcast (I hope they do! I will be so frustrated if they archive Arizona's coverage instead), I am definitely buying a download ^_^

It's too bad you couldn't be there for this tonight! But yes, baseball is really very good. I just love the way that anything can happen.

From: [identity profile] acroarcs.livejournal.com

LOL. No, really. LOL. I was wondering why I hadn't seen a post about this from you yet, but I guess the delay was just how long it took to walk to campus.

And I missed the whole thing because I was watching Angel DVDs. I'm going to have to have this one playing from the archives tonight, I think.

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

Hee, yeah. I was gonna wait to post tomorrow, but when ESPN went back to the White Sox-Red Sox game, I knew I had to get to a computer. How could they not keep talking about the Fish!?!? XD

I didn't get to see much of it either, just the two half innings that ESPN aired live. Right now, the mlb.tv coverage is still going, airing the post game press conference. I really hope they leave that stuff attached when they archive the game!

(Btw, Bri texted me about the Snow Patrol concert - I definitely can't now; I have two early classes Monday :/ But I really appreciate you remembering me!)

From: [identity profile] lovingthecubs.livejournal.com

I'm still all giddy, & I cannot concentrate on microbiology. I wonder if my teacher will accept the "A Fish threw a No-No" over "My dog ate my homework" excuse? ;]

[hugs you & throws confetti for all]

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

lol, depends. Is your teacher a baseball fan? I remember a teacher giving me a pass on an assignment once, because there had been a really late playoff game the night before ^_~

**twirls with you**

From: [identity profile] acroarcs.livejournal.com

because there had been a really late playoff game the night before

Almost nothing got done at MIT during the 2003 ALCS, and while they didn't exactly give passes because of it, they didn't exactly ignore the fact that all of their students were glued to the television. And I think the day after Game 7 (and fucking Aaron Boone it's okay, he's an Indian now) there were really no expectations for anyone to have anything done. Or to stay awake. Or to go to class. Or to do anything but mope around. It was the most depressing day in Boston this side of 2001.

From: [identity profile] misscalculation.livejournal.com

I had a scheduled vacation day the day after Game 7, but not a single person who knew me realized that I was out for any other reason than the Red Sox. No way to tell at that moment that we were only at the midpoint of the 2003-2004 arc. It was crushing.

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

Oh man, I can only imagine how Brown's campus must have been in the fall of '03. I had graduated that spring, and remember being struck by the urge to send flowers/booze to the guys I had worked with in the kitchen.

For me, it was October of '99; my first experience with the Sox/Yanks madness. Don't get me wrong, the assignment was still due! He wasn't THAT much of a fan :P We just got an extra couple of days ^_~

Omg. I mean, omg!!

**laughs in the face of all the pre-season predictions**

...er, except the ones about us. 'cos most people were picking us to make it pretty far. yeah, those were right.

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

Omg. I mean, omg!!

**laughs** Pretty much. I went out with my friend Kristal to get iced lattes, because I had to do SOMETHING to celebrate, and I'm pretty sure she thought I was high or something.

most people were picking us to make it pretty far.yeah, those were right.

Aww. And lol. Season's NOT OVER YET.

YAY FOR BASEBALL MAKING US BOTH HAPPY!!!

The first thing I saw when I turned on ESPN after getting home from the game was Anibal Sanchez jumping for joy, and I immediately thought "NO-HITTER HOW AWESOME" and then "OHHHH Myr's going to be all asquee!" :-D What a great story this team has been; I'm happy you're enjoying it so much. *hugs*

I have baseball happiness tonight as well; the Wings won their first playoff game since 1997 (and MY FIRST EVER)! 8-D Thus I have a new default icon.

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

Yay Red Wings! Who'da thought you'd be all asquee over anything remotely related to the Twins organization ^_~ I'm glad you got to see it!

From: [identity profile] owllover711.livejournal.com

Who'da thought you'd be all asquee over anything remotely related to the Twins organization ^_~

LOL, I like to pretend they never left the Orioles' farm system. (Alright, not really!) I've just learned to ignore the fact that they are associated with the Twinkies. I cheer for the players until they get called up, then their names are mud to me--with a couple of exceptions.
:-P Or if they get sent back down. Then I can cheer for them again!

The Twinkies can't ruin my Red Wings! *shakes fist*

From: [identity profile] mokulen.livejournal.com

I caught the 9th when ESPN cut into it - awww that was beautiful to watch! :) I vaguely remember Sanchez mowing down the Astros on one of Clemens starts and thought the Stros were just chokin' again with Roger on the mound ;) Then later I started hearing the kid was picking up more steam and wins but never would have guessed ... :)

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

I think that's probably what I like most about following the Marlins this year - the entire team is full of guys I never woulda guessed stuff about ^_^ Anibal has pitched really well on occasion, but I never thought his first complete game would go down like this!

(Btw, congrats on locking up Roy O for a while! Though a contract that size pretty much seals the fact that Zito won't be in Oakland much longer, I'm glad to know Roy isn't going anywhere. I just couldn't picture him pitching for anyone else!)

From: [identity profile] mokulen.livejournal.com

I know - you should have seen how some of the Houston boards went into a panick the night before the trade deadline when the Roy trade rumors started surfacing! I couldn't believe what I was reading - I barely slept that night. Thank goodness they tied him up (though no doubt the contract will come back and bite us).

Man, what's up with those Gateway guys. I know the company is basically up for sale (http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Story/Story.aspx?siteid=mktw&guid=%7BA4C5930A%2D75F1%2D46ED%2DB82B%2DDBD12A86A86B%7D&), but still. I've no idea what's going on in the baseball world without your posts. ;)

And there's a brandnew James Bond trailer scheduled for tonight, and you don't want to miss that, right? :)

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

I know the company is basically up for sale, but still.

AHA. No wonder they don't seem to care about getting my stuff back to me. Bastards!

I've no idea what's going on in the baseball world without your posts. ;)

LOL, you poor deprived man.

(I looked up what this post is about, since it seemed pretty exciting.)

Heh, it was! It's something that many more accomplished baseball pitchers have never been able to do, so for a young player to do it in his first year is pretty amazing ^_^

And there's a brandnew James Bond trailer scheduled for tonight, and you don't want to miss that, right? :)

Ooh! **scampers off to your lj to dl**

From: [identity profile] trailer-spot.livejournal.com

It happened just hours ago. :P

I just start now to sift through the files I downloaded earlier this morning. But here's the link for the large version of the trailer (http://pdl.stream.aol.com/aol/us/moviefone/movies/2006/casinoroyale_018129/casinoroyale_trlr_02_bbhiq_56dsrjud_dl.mov).
Unfortunately it's hosted by Aol who are still unable to encode a quicktime file, it's 1678 MB large. Not that you needed more encouragement, but it's pretty bad-ass and well worth the download. :)

From: [identity profile] trailer-spot.livejournal.com

Apologies, first for the typo of the size of the file and I only now realised that the second link I have leads to the same trailer (and not a smaller size version, as a I first thought) in a much better encode. So Aol does know how to encode now and then after all.

Better version (http://pdl.stream.aol.com/aol/us/moviefone/movies/2006/casinoroyale_018129/casinoroyale_trlr_02_mbhiq_56rerrfu3_dl.mov)

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

Thanks so much! That was very cool - I was already looking forward to the film, but that made me even more anxious. Hopefully I'll have my comp soon so I can rip the audio for [Bad username or site: owllover711 / @ livejournal.com] and throw up a few screencaps.

From: [identity profile] trailer-spot.livejournal.com

You're welcome! It looks really good.

I hope you get your laptop back soon too. Did you try to contact someone this week since it takes now quite a bit longer than they first said.

And on a different topic, and I really fear to get a deja-vu answer, did you get a postcard from me in the last two weeks?

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

Did you try to contact someone this week since it takes now quite a bit longer than they first said.

I emailed Gateway on Tuesday, and their response was to suggest I call their Corporate office (I hate when they do that; I know the customer service guy had the exact same information in front of him that the guy at Corporate was gonna have). It turns out they called my home in Baltimore on August 29th and left a message, seeking permission to replace my motherboard. They called because that would be an out-of-warranty repair, and it would cost me. They hadn't mailed my computer back to me yet because I hadn't responded to that message. (I never got the message because my father said someone from Gateway called, but there was no indication who the message was for, so he assumed it was a wrong number. I mentioned my computer problem to my mother, but I never said anything to my dad, and I guess my mom didn't either, so he didn't know. Family communication, yay.)

I was really irritated when I found that out because:

1.) When you send your computer in for repair, there's a little sheet you have to fill out and sign and send in with it. On the sheet, they ask you what you want them to do if they find something wrong with your computer that is not covered by warranty. The first option authorizes them to do any repairs they deem necessary, and charge your credit card. I selected the second option Perform only warranty-covered repairs. Do not perform any out-of-warranty repairs, and mail my computer back to me. So I don't know why a.) they called me trying to get permission for an out of warranty repair, or b.) why they held on to my computer for almost a week after calling to try to get permission for an out of warranty repair.

2.) When I mailed my computer to them it was in fine working condition. I was using it right up until I shut it down to put it in the box to mail to them. The only problem it had was the screen hinge. So I don't know where the hell this 'damaged motherboard' issue is coming from all of a sudden. I don't know if it's that my computer had been working (and will continue to work) despite the fact there's some minor damage to the motherboard, or if they did something to my computer while it was in their care, and now it won't work. Someone told me that whenever you send a computer in, the first thing they try to do is sell you a new motherboard whether you need one or not, so I'm hoping it's the first thing, and my computer will still be working when I get it. If not, I'll buy another one, but I'm not going to pay them $400 or whatever to replace the most expensive part of a year-old computer, especially not when you can buy a new computer for $600.

So, in sum, BOOO to Gateway. They annoy me. I've been emailing them everyday since Tuesday trying to find out if they've shipped my computer back to me yet. As of yesterday morning it was still at their service center, "ready to be shipped." I emailed again just now to see if it mailed out yesterday afternoon or if they expect to mail it today or what. I think it's annoying their customer service people, but I really don't care. I want my computer back, damn it.

And on a different topic, and I really fear to get a deja-vu answer, did you get a postcard from me in the last two weeks?

:( I have not. I'll hold out hope though, because we got hit with a tropical storm last Friday and a lot of mail I should have received last week has just now been getting to me.

From: [identity profile] trailer-spot.livejournal.com

Woah! Boo is certainly putting it mildly. Asking you if you want to have your motherboard replaced, and you say that you have heard that they often try to sell you one whether you need it or not? I can't believe it. To me a motherboard either works or doesn't work, it's not something like brakes that need to be replaced after some time. I really hope you'll get the laptop back with a functioning motherboard.

As for the mail, I sent it about three weeks ago, it was meant as a back-to-school card :). So as much as I would like to believe that it can be blamed on the tropical storm I don't have too much hope. I sent it to the address I have in Williamsburg. I assumed it's still the same this semester. Is it?

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

Good news (well, mostly) on two fronts! Gateway shipped my laptop yesterday. Yay! According to the tracking info they gave me, it shipped yesterday and should have arrived today, but when I called the carrier, I was told there was some kind of delay in Ohio, and my laptop was one of the packages delayed. Boo! I'm in Maryland now, and won't get back to Virginia until Sunday night, so I guess I won't be able to check the condition of my laptop until Monday. LE SIGH, and such.

In happier news, your card was here in Maryland! It was redirected here from Virginia - I guess it arrived in VA just before school started, when they were still forwarding mail to our summer addresses. It must have arrived shortly after I headed back to campus. But I'm happy to report it did arrive - there's no curious Gremlin eating my mail from abroad ^_^

From: [identity profile] trailer-spot.livejournal.com

Oh, mail forwarding, that means the card was too early instead of too late or lost for a change :D. That makes the text somewhat obsolete but I'm very much relieved that it reached you since I felt slightly cursed. So a big YAY for that.

That only leaves the question if your motherboard will be okay. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the streak of good news continues on Monday. :)

From: [identity profile] misscalculation.livejournal.com

So, so happy for Anibal. ^_^ Perhaps a little less happy about the renewed how-did-we-trade-away-all-these-guys discussion here, but things happen. I have the feeling the Marlins environment this year was far better for both Anibal and Hanley than anything in the Red Sox system would have been.

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

I can only imagine! Most all of the guys in the Marlins clubhouse (with the exception of the manager and coaches) have played the majority of this year under no expectations on them at all, and that's gotta be a good environment for guys to develop in while at the major league level. I remember Hanley was very rough defensively at the beginning of the season, and I can just imagine how that would have gone over in the pressure cooker that is New England had he, for whatever reason, been called up.

Perhaps a little less happy about the renewed how-did-we-trade-away-all-these-guys discussion here, but things happen.

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda, right? Just about anyone criticizing now would have jumped to make the same deal last offseason.

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

It was, from what I saw of it! I was mostly impressed with how he bounced back in the 8th inning - he seemed to lose the strike zone for a couple batters, and I figured, "this is it, he's gonna lose it." But he held it together. I'd love to see a couple of those out of Oakland down the stretch ^_~

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

lol, well said! (Okay, I don't hate ESPN, but sometimes I do dislike them very much. Mostly this time of the year, when all my baseball coverage is sacrificed in the name of covering college football. Just...what?)
