Noooooooooooooo. Reyes won't play in the All Star Game. David Eckstein is going as his replacement.

"I'm disappointed," Reyes said before the Mets' 7-6 victory over Florida on Sunday. "I'm not going to play, but I'm still going." Aww.

Also, people who feel bad for Lidge when he sucks it up: if there's a reason besides your being an Astros fan, Bri would like to know.

Since I do not like the Astros, and quite often dislike them, I feel qualified to answer this question. XD

I've lived in or jsut outside the city limits of Houston for 10 years. In the time, I was not a baseball fan for 8 of them. When I started watching baseball in '04, Astros was mostly what we got televised, so I'd come in and watch little bits of the games when my mom had them on.
During the College World Series, Huston Street was pitching for UT as a closer. The only time I ever saw the CWS was when he was shutting the poor other college kids down and somehow it ended up with me being fascinated with the closer position in general, why it was used, etc.
So, for the rest of the season, I started paying more attention to Brad Lidge and he became my favorite Astro and I've been a huge fan ever since.

And now that he's under such criticism, I feel bad for him. There's still the Lights Out Lidge in there, I just think that he probably needs to get out of Houston and away from the same old everything (not to mention the doomed feeling of being in a hitters ballpark as a struggling pitcher).

...I think I accidentally posted Anonymously.
I hope it did not die because it took my ADD self a while to type that out. XD

**laughs** No, it was there, just screened. I've unscreened it. Thank you for aiding me in my quest to show [Bad username or site: rickenbacker / @ livejournal.com] she is totally soulless for not feeling any empathy for Brad Lidge :P

Oh, okay. Phew. =D

...Is she the one I stole the Mulder dreams from? *makes note to continue stealing the dreams*

How heartless can you be? If nothing else, he's a cutie and deserves empathy. =(

LOL, she is! She was bitching the other day about how she hadn't had a cyber visit from her boys in a while :P Though she was telling me a few weeks ago that she dreamed she drove a bus and she drove Mark Mulder to Wal-Mart.

Don't look at me :P

How heartless can you be? If nothing else, he's a cutie and deserves empathy. =(

I know, right? But noooo, she's all about making Lidge cry.

**laughs** Yeah, that's part of it for me, too. I can't quite put my finger on it with Lidge, can't figure why I don't believe him when he says he has a closer's memory and these things don't bother him for long. But like, when Mariano Rivera was having his trouble closing out games against the BoSox? He'd say after that it sucks, but these things happen, and he'll be ready to face them next time. And I totally believe that he's not shaken to his core, that he still has tremendous confidence in himself and his abilities. But Lidge? I don't believe him for a second! And part of it is definitely that Mariano has been doing this for a very long time, and Lidge has only been closing for what...2 years? three? And of course, part of it is me buying into the media's great Lidge/Pujols myth, where the media won't let him forget it. But part of it is also that there's just Something About Lidge. It's in his face, in his eyes, when he gets into a tough spot. I swear.

I kind of just randomly admired and respected Lidge (and found him rather hot) until You-Know-Who humiliated him in last year's NLCS. I was so upset on Brad's behalf and angry that every analyst in the country was writing him off, that it galvanized me into rooting for him after that; I thought he was too good and had accomplished too much to just be written off over that moment. You know how I am about that stuff, I guess...:-) Everything I've learned about him since has endeared him further to me anyway. Hope that made some sense.
