!#$%#@$%$@. Also known as good old fashion SQUEEage XD [Bad username or site: rickenbacker / @ livejournal.com] is some kind of miracle worker! I have NO idea how she scored it - I searched high and low for the damn things and I was all over ebay for weeks after they were given out at Dolphins Stadium. It's, like, so ridiculous how happy this makes me XD She is forgiven the whole disgraceful scoreboard defamation of my character. And Cardinals Nation can love on itself ALL IT WANTS, I no longer have anything smartassed to say about it :P

In other news, I also love my f-list for making sure I knew Roy O. had been picked to replace Pedro. I got two email notifications and a text message. You guys crack me up. But I actually had to go to MLB.com to find out Magglio was tapped to replace Ramirez! -2,000 points for the rest of you ^_~

Dontrelle Willis hit a grand slam in the Marlins/Mets game tonight - guess the extra rest suited him. Tomorrow's doubleheader in New York is single admission, and part of me wishes I had stuck with earlier plans to make the trek. But the Philly series is close enough and I've already spent way too much money on these guys, lol. It's a shame Fox is televising the daygame instead of the much more intriguing evening matchup: Josh Johnson versus the Mets golden child Pelfrey.

Random question - you ever hear Rich Harden speak? I stumbled across a postgame clip of him today, having never heard his voice before, and he just doesn't sound at all like I imagined. For one thing, in a clip that was about 1:45, he said "you know" approximately 34 times. That shit was ridiculous. He was throwing "you know"s around as much as I throw around "like", and there's just no excuse for him, cause he's Canadian. They're supposed to be so well-spoken! ^_~ I understand now why he doesn't get as much camera time as some of the other guys (or at least, that he doesn't seem to). I mean, besides the fact that you can only talk to a guy about the fact that he's snakebitten but so many times. His postgame was kinda hard to listen to. It's funny, I was trying to think of why I imagined he'd sound different and it's less that he's Canadian and a bit more that my mental construct of Rich Harden is based almost entirely on Beck's characterization of him, and he tends to come off a bit more mentally ahead of the game in her fics. The kind of guy who isn't inclined to say something out loud until he's thought it out fairly long and hard, you know? :P I was amused, is all.

Grr. I am having MLB.tv related drama, and there is no good ice cream in my house (Neapolitan? Are you serious?) - it would be ruining my night except that I'm wearing my Jake shirt XD

No good ice cream and wearing your Jake shirt?

Swear I coulda heard that before...

From: [identity profile] lovingthecubs.livejournal.com

I'm lovin' the shirt! & usually all the ones I've seen of the "notsopopular" players are in only one color, but [livejournal.com profile] rickenbacker managed a nice silvery one! Those stadium giveaways are good things. :D

Oh man. They'd said during the Cubs game that Willis hit a homer, but they didn't say it was a grand slam! Holy cow. That's awesome.

On the Rich note, no- I haven't heard him talk. But it sounds a lot like Matt Murton, who says "No doubt about it" alllllllll the time.

I haven't heard Harden either, but it sounds a lot like Ben Broussard, who says both "Like" and "Y"know" every three seconds. It's kind of adorable.

Adorable in a dorky kind of way. But adorable nonetheless. ;]

He says "like" a lot? man afte my own heart :P

Btw, congrats on the win yesterday! I saw a bit of Hafner's postgame and they were asking him what he was thinking as he came up with the bases loaded. He cracks me up.

Hafner is hilarious for several reasons:
1) He is totally faking every "aw shucks!" moment you see.
2) I think he thinks machismo is about as funny as I do.
3) His speaking is usually completely devoid of "like"s and "y'know"s to the point that he sounds funny
4) Also, he has a funny little accent.

Okay. Um. *stopping now*

I am dying to know how/where she found it! Maybe that's why the Cards have been struggling? She was focusing all her special powers on conjuring up this shirt and sacrificing the well-being of her team in the meanwhile. My friends are too good to me ^_~

But it sounds a lot like Matt Murton, who says "No doubt about it" alllllllll the time.

LOL, I remember you posting about him after some mlb radio interview I think? Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm sure there's at least one guy on every team that you can think of who's like that :P

From: [identity profile] soupypictures.livejournal.com

somehow, somewhere, i've heard harden speak. and i didn't notice anything but the fact that his vowels were canadian. that arrested my attention, so all "you knows" were thrown by the wayside.

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

**laughs** You know, there were two words in particular during the clip that he said and I was like "HA! You are SO Canadian!" I can't think of what they were now though; I'll have to go back and check.

I just heard about Dontrelle on the way home. Crazy.

I love the way Richie says "everybody". It's so different. "Evrybaudy."

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

lol, I didn't get an 'everybody' in the postgame clip, but [Bad username or site: roxybritain / @ livejournal.com] just reminded me of the 2005 A's fanfest footage I have of him, so hopefully I get one there :P

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

**laughs** No, I'm sure he's probably a bit more well-expressed when he doesn't have a half dozen cameras and mics shoved in his face. I like the way you write Rich!

From: [identity profile] candle-beck.livejournal.com

c'mooon. imagine the fun of dim-witted richie being all confused about why zito keeps touching him. imagine crosby poking him in the forehead all: HE. WANTS. TO. FUCK. YOU.

imagine the look on his face!

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

LOL, you're awful. I imagine the understanding striking him slowly, something like that Doug Adams line, you could watch it coming in like a long wave on a sandy beach. XD

From: [identity profile] roxybritain.livejournal.com

Yeah, Rich definitely has filler dependencies. It would be cute except that, as a teacher, I notice that sort of thing all the time from my kids, so it's not actually that cute. But then again, one of my favorite professors in the world said "You know" a lot, and it was just an automatic thing, like a tick, and we just learned to ignore it as we listened to her talk about Aristotle's Poetics as related to Shakespeare :)

I think Rich doesn't even like to talk much. Not long ago you posted some video of an interview panel from some fanfest (I guess it was last year's) with him, Zito, Blanton, and Curt Young, and Harden barely said anything and looked kind of standoffish and uncomfortable the whole time, like he REALLY didn't want to be there, as opposed to Zito, who we all know is totally fine with things like that.

I'd say it's probably this sort of thing with most people? I have a really hard time with my "like"s. It's why I've long prefer written communication (email, lj) to talking on the phone, because when I'm writing, the "like"s get toned down, at least a little ^_~

I think Rich doesn't even like to talk much.

This would not surprise me, lol, after reading his comments on Huston's tremendous cellphone usage.

Oh yeah! (and yes, that was from last year's panel). I'd uploaded it at the request of someone on the AP comm, and never made it past Zito's Brynes story. I'd completely forgotten about that!

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

OH. Belatedly, I was just thinking how Harden's "you know"s operate much in the same way as Mark Mulder's infamous shrugs XD

From: [identity profile] roxybritain.livejournal.com

It's not surprising. People use filler words/actions when they're trying to talk faster than they can think, which usually happens in interviews, and what I've noticed is that Rich tends to blitz through his responses. I personally would think that anything that is going to be heard/read by a lot of people should be really thought through carefully, but then again, it IS only baseball. They're not asking him anything incriminating or anything.

I'm glad you're happy. And is that book called Pagan Babies? *notices the weirdest things*

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

lol, yes, it is. It's a BookCrossing (http://www.bookcrossing.com/) book I've held hostage for almost two years now >.> I'm awful.

You realize I am adding this post to my memories, to ensure that no future smartassery goes unchided?

If you petted your shirt half as much as I petted my DVDs (still in the plastic, of course) I'm happy :P Dood, Ozzie Smith footage!! And baby Pujols!!

Does Rich ever say "sorry"? Other than of course "eh?" and "zed", that's the only way I know to spot a Canadian ... they say it like they're saying "sorrid".

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

You realize I am adding this post to my memories, to ensure that no future smartassery goes unchided?

**laughs** D'oh!

Sadly, I haven't heard a sorry yet. I'll keep an ear out for you. "I told Huston I was sorry I stuck my tongue down his throat..." or some variation thereof would be nice.
