+ I got my Hudson and Mulder tees yesterday, and a shipping notification on my Flamethrowers poster. I have no illusions about the fact that I am throwing myself into fangirling an A's rotation as it no longer exists as some sort of weird acting out over my fears about lawschool and my life. It's all so very Jeremy in The Sword of Orion, Sam in Somebody's Going To Emergency...except it's got nothing do with my parents getting a divorce or my father having had a 20+ year affair.

+ I think it might actually be a crime that [Bad username or site: panicqueen / @ livejournal.com] hasn't written more. And if it's not a violation of some obscure federal statute, it damn well ought to be. She had the cutest Harden/Crosby in progress as of March of this year, and that was like an eternity ago. I don't think she has email notification of comments enabled (!!!), so if you talk to her, you should poke her on it for me ^_~

+ Rocco Baldelli, bless his Rhodey heart, reportedly has agreed to a six year deal with the Devil Rays. I have a special kind of admiration for anyone who would agree to become a franchise player for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. (I'll be eating these words in like 5 years when the Devil Rays are actually a decent young team that has figured out pitching.)

+ MLB still hasn't announced the NL Cy Young, because they're messing with me. Does anyone know when it's due to be announced? [Ah, actually it says right here on the MLB homepage that the NL Cy Young will be announced on Thursday >.> -- Ed.]

+ [Bad username or site: offspeed / @ livejournal.com], I think it was you who asked me where I'd heard that the Yanks were shopping Posada. The Daily News ran a story today. I hope it doesn't work out. Posada in pinstripes is like, a constant, that I don't need to see go anywhere any time soon. Also, I think it would make Jeter cry. Especially since Tino got dumped, again. (Sorry, [Bad username or site: sensefille / @ livejournal.com]!)
This is from last week, but if you haven't read it, it's still kinda funny. Especially now that we're a week away from the strum und drang that followed The Announcement.

Five days into the Post-Theo Era, I suggest everyone drink a nice big glass of Calm Down.

Yes, Theo is an intelligent guy who did an excellent job as the general manager and he can probably do many other things very well in life. But he still was a baseball general manager for crying out loud, not the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staffs, the director of Habitat for Humanity or the guy who developed Google. I mean, White Sox general manager Kenny Williams just accomplished the exact same thing as Theo and with a much smaller payroll. And I don't see anyone anointing Williams as an irreplaceable genius.
-- Jim Caple, Searching For St. Theo.

Oh, Jimbo, I think that should be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff? Like Courts Martial? I could be wrong.

So what's with this nonsense in the air about the Sox and Theo still possibly working something out? Cause that would be crazy.

Also, this cover splash for the steroid story? Thanks ESPN. That guy's arms? I'm so disturbed.

Flanny on re-signing BJ Ryan: "I think we are optimistic." Yeah? I think you're on crack, Flanny.

ETA: Raffy's released his "explanation". Which is to say, he said the same exact thing that was leaked before:

In a statement released by his lawyer, Palmeiro acknowledged several facts of his case that already had been reported, including that the anabolic steroid stanozolol was found in his system in May, and that he had raised the possibility that a shot of vitamin B12 he took in April "might have been the cause."

"I have never intentionally taken steroids," Palmeiro said in the statement.

For the love of God, SHUT UP AND GO AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK.
Listening to the Walk The Line soundtrack and Joaquin doesn't sound half bad. I'm finding Reese's voice/accent a little grating, but I have no idea what June Carter Cash sounded like IRL, so she might be spot on with that for all I know.

Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire

Joaquin Phoenix - Ring of Fire (WTL soundtrack)

So, I realize this movie doesn't quite have the Gay Cowboy quotient of others we're anticipating this fall, but who else is planning to see Walk The Line? I'm not a huge Cash fan, but trailers have looked pretty good. And by "looked pretty good" I mean "contained a lot of shots of Joaquin being all Brown Eyes McBroodsalot."
