Listening to the Walk The Line soundtrack and Joaquin doesn't sound half bad. I'm finding Reese's voice/accent a little grating, but I have no idea what June Carter Cash sounded like IRL, so she might be spot on with that for all I know.
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire
Joaquin Phoenix - Ring of Fire (WTL soundtrack)
So, I realize this movie doesn't quite have the Gay Cowboy quotient of others we're anticipating this fall, but who else is planning to see Walk The Line? I'm not a huge Cash fan, but trailers have looked pretty good. And by "looked pretty good" I mean "contained a lot of shots of Joaquin being all Brown Eyes McBroodsalot."

I'm not too keen on "Brokeback Mountain." Maybe I'll see it, but I don't believe the hype on this one.

Is there much hype about Brokeback Mountain? I haven't really heard much in the "outside" world, as it were. I did see a complimentary piece in the NYT a couple months back, but that was pretty much it. I mean, I know my f-list and I talk a lot about it, but that's just us being dorks about the prospect of watching hot guys making out.

It seems like Joaquin has that whole preachery-talking-singing thing down. I want to use the word "declaim," but I have no idea why. I'm sorta glad they ditched the Tijuana Brass for the new version.
IRL June Carter Cash had an extremely distinctive nasal-y sorta hillbilly (in the best sense of the word) voice...that was AWESOME. So strong and sassy. Man, she was such a badass. *tear* Check out "Jackson" (particularly the Folsom Prison version) if you want to really hear her belt. I haven't heard any of the songs from the soundtrack, so I can't speak to Reese's interpretation...I hope she's not too cutesy, though.

And I had no idea that HP had a Gay Cowboy Quotient! ..

I'm the same way! But I did so enjoy Ray last year, and Joaquin's performance (read: Joaquin) looks compelling, so I may go. I may drag my dad, who though he claims to hate Country Music, knows the words to an awful lot of Johnny Cash songs.

LOL. And Chronicles of Narnia too. Rife with the gay cowboys, that flick :-P

hahaha At least we're honest, right?
Oh man, it makes me wish we weren't so freakin' far away from each other. We could totally go see movies this month.

Hahaha...Colonial Williamsburg is pretty cool. But in Houston, I have this great job, and a really fun baseball team (when they're not making me cry, of course!). ;-) I'm going to be up in your neck of the woods the weekend of the 18th, though, visiting some friends in DC. I'll think of you. :-)
(Also, I learned the printer who does our books is located in Baltimore. Cool, huh?)

That's funny; you're gonna be the second person on my f-list who will be in the general area that weekend :-P

**laughs** That is pretty neat.
