Listening to the Walk The Line soundtrack and Joaquin doesn't sound half bad. I'm finding Reese's voice/accent a little grating, but I have no idea what June Carter Cash sounded like IRL, so she might be spot on with that for all I know.

Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire

Joaquin Phoenix - Ring of Fire (WTL soundtrack)

So, I realize this movie doesn't quite have the Gay Cowboy quotient of others we're anticipating this fall, but who else is planning to see Walk The Line? I'm not a huge Cash fan, but trailers have looked pretty good. And by "looked pretty good" I mean "contained a lot of shots of Joaquin being all Brown Eyes McBroodsalot."

JOAQUIN, JOAQUIN, JOAQUIN!

I am definitely planning on seeing "Walk The Line" and "Shopgirl." I still need to see Proof and Capote, but "WTL" and "Shopgirl" are my two must-sees.

I'm not too keen on "Brokeback Mountain." Maybe I'll see it, but I don't believe the hype on this one.

I've heard mixed things about Shopgirl; you'll have to let me know what you think.

Is there much hype about Brokeback Mountain? I haven't really heard much in the "outside" world, as it were. I did see a complimentary piece in the NYT a couple months back, but that was pretty much it. I mean, I know my f-list and I talk a lot about it, but that's just us being dorks about the prospect of watching hot guys making out.

**laughs** I don't doubt it. People will be like, "omg, what is that god awful noise coming out of Ohio?" And I'll be like, "oh, that's just [Bad username or site: __dtrain / @ livejournal.com]. She'll be okay. Try not to worry." :-P

Seriously. I'm almost as excited for Walk the Line as for HP...as you said, not quite Gay Cowboy territory, but...

It seems like Joaquin has that whole preachery-talking-singing thing down. I want to use the word "declaim," but I have no idea why. I'm sorta glad they ditched the Tijuana Brass for the new version.

IRL June Carter Cash had an extremely distinctive nasal-y sorta hillbilly (in the best sense of the word) voice...that was AWESOME. So strong and sassy. Man, she was such a badass. *tear* Check out "Jackson" (particularly the Folsom Prison version) if you want to really hear her belt. I haven't heard any of the songs from the soundtrack, so I can't speak to Reese's interpretation...I hope she's not too cutesy, though.

Ooh, listening to Jackson now. I don't think I'd say Reese's voice is cutesy, but I don't think she sounds near as strong as June. June's voice is a little huskier, I'd say actually. I can tell what Reese is going for, but I don't think she quite nails it.

Walk The Line looks good, but I'm not a fan of musical biopics. I like my bipoics historical with battle scenes.

And I had no idea that HP had a Gay Cowboy Quotient! ..

I'm the same way! But I did so enjoy Ray last year, and Joaquin's performance (read: Joaquin) looks compelling, so I may go. I may drag my dad, who though he claims to hate Country Music, knows the words to an awful lot of Johnny Cash songs.

LOL. And Chronicles of Narnia too. Rife with the gay cowboys, that flick :-P

*jumps up and down* Me, me!

hahaha At least we're honest, right?

Oh man, it makes me wish we weren't so freakin' far away from each other. We could totally go see movies this month.

**laughs** You should move :-P I mean, honestly, how can you resist the lure of Colonial Williamsburg? ^_~

Hahaha...Colonial Williamsburg is pretty cool. But in Houston, I have this great job, and a really fun baseball team (when they're not making me cry, of course!). ;-) I'm going to be up in your neck of the woods the weekend of the 18th, though, visiting some friends in DC. I'll think of you. :-)

(Also, I learned the printer who does our books is located in Baltimore. Cool, huh?)

That's funny; you're gonna be the second person on my f-list who will be in the general area that weekend :-P

(Also, I learned the printer who does our books is located in Baltimore. Cool, huh?)

**laughs** That is pretty neat.

the man in black

I definately want to see Walk the Line. Because I could use a little more Johnny Cash in my life. Who couldn't??

Clearly not the two of us ^_^ Are you doing Goblet of Fire next week? I can't remember if you're a Potter person.
