In what universe is The Bourne Supremacy a better movie than The Bourne Identity? And I wouldn't have put The Bourne Identity on this list. Especially at the expense of a good movie like Dances with Wolves, the omission of which is a joke.

I can't even take the list seriously without Dances With Wolves being on it. That sort of thing lets me be more accepting of some of these choices. Heh.

I'm sure if I thought about it a little harder, more grievous omissions would come to me, but DWW was just so, so glaring. I agree with more of these than I thought I would, but some of the choices are just laughable. Of course, it's EW, so you can't really get too worked up. It's not like when AFI releases yet another list and I'm like "whaaa?" at some of the rankings ;)

gotta do this one. although i prob haven't seen a good portion. i def don't own many. i only buy my fave faves, which tend to not be on lists like these.

i'm not surprised they've left some good ones off.

I'm not surprised either, since I think sometimes that the point of these lists is to be a little annoying and work in purposely "unconventional" choices. Ah well. Gives us something to talk about?

I was musing in my journal that to me it is impossible to determine what is Top about these. Not all of them are good, or top money grossing movies, nor they even have some kind of historical/sociological or other type of impact. How did they select these?! As far as I'm concerned, leaving out Last Crusade and Beauty and the Beast invalidates this list. :-P

On the EW site, they had a little blurb with each choice, explaining why it had made the list. As you can expect, however, some of the rationales were pretty lacking and their reasoning, debatable. But at least it gives us something to talk about and kill some work hours with ;)

I think I saw most of them at some point (though in some cases I barely remember), so just the ones I own on DVD, * indicates favourites of recent years. Lots of others I'd like to rewatch but who has the time.
1. Pulp Fiction (1994)
2. The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-03) EEs
10. Moulin Rouge (2001)
12. The Matrix (1999) *
19. Casino Royale (2006)
23. Memento (2001) *
25. Shrek (2001)
29. The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
30. When Harry Met Sally... (1989)
32. Fight Club (1999)
34. Fargo (1996) but no Lebowski on the list, Booo!
35. The Incredibles (2004)
38. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) *
43. Gladiator (2000)
46. Children of Men (2006) *
49. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
56. The Lives of Others (2006) as soon as DVD price drops
80. Michael Clayton (2007) * as soon as DVD price drops
82. Lost in Translation (2003)
88. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
95. In the Mood for Love (2001) *

Not seen, more or less as a matter of principle. :)
3. Titanic (1997)
6. Saving Private Ryan (1998)
21. Schindler's List (1993)
65. Dirty Dancing (1987)

Like to see eventually:
27. Aliens (1986) while not a big fan of 'scary' movies, at one point I'd like to see the Alien movies (I think I've seen only the 3rd).
89. Breaking the Waves (1996) pops up regularly on TV. I think about watching/taping it but usually decide against it because I think it's too depressive :D.

28. Wings of Desire (1988) (This is the European movie, right? With the angel that follows that circus chick around?)
Yes it is. There's also a remake with Nic Cage and Meg Ryan 'City of Angels' which I thought wasn't too bad.
69. All About My Mother (1999) (I should own this. I love this movie.)
While I would like to see one or two of them again, in general, I don't get Almodóvar.

While your rant about Supremacy and Identity is interesting, it's obviously clear that Ultimatum is the one that should be on the list. ;P.

Trust me, you're not missing anything with Dirty Dancing. I've only seen it since Bri moved in. She loves it, and was all I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT!!!

I'd heard that City of Angels was a remake of the other film, which is actually the only reason I've seen WOD. I think it came on IFC or something, last year. I didn't mind City of Angels either, although I was not a fan of the last half hour or so.

While I would like to see one or two of them again, in general, I don't get Almodóvar.

I don't know that I "get" him either, but I do like something about his style. I own Talk To Her, just because.

While your rant about Supremacy and Identity is interesting, it's obviously clear that Ultimatum is the one that should be on the list. ;P.

lol, NO. Just...no.
