Drove down from MD today and on the radio TPTB were playing excerpts from several different MLK speeches. That was really something to listen to. There was one speech in particular, where he talked about death threats being leveled against his family during the bus boycotts and how he despaired. He recalled praying, one sleepless night over a cup of coffee in his kitchen, for God (well, Jesus) to give him strength to carry on. It was very moving. I hadn't heard that speech before, or many of the others that were played.
Speaking of faith and things that give us strength, and with no disrespect intended, I feel it should be noted that the first few batches of pitchers and catchers will be reporting to ST in exactly one month and counting.
I have decided I will make a 'To Read' pile of about 4-5 leisure books for this semester. Wish me luck.
(Bri came. It was great. I cannot find the USB cord for my camera, so you, and she, are all spared pics. And video of her laughing at Joel Zumaya's inability to field, like the meanie that she is.)

Cubs report in one month minus one day. :D
Ahh. No one should have to suffer through times with a lost USB cord. My best wishes!

WHOOO :P I just got an email from my friend Amy - she always goes down to AZ for ST to watch the Cubs. She's got her tickets already! ^_~ I'm pretty jealous. I thought about going with her this year, but I'm gonna be in MO with Bri, hopefully, which isn't a bad alternative to live baseball. Knowing us, we'll just end up watching ST games online.

I'm excited, but a little less so than in other years because Markus is not going to start the season, so we won't see him in ST. :-c I think I may have to start a countdown to Erik Bedard or something to get me going.

Is Moneyball going to be in that pile?
I may be in the minority here, but I do want to see that video of Bri. Find the cord, please? :-)

Aw. Yeah, I was psyched about the Cards reporting on the 15th and then I remembered Mark prolly wouldn't be one of them. ALAS.

LOL, yay. Whatever gets you through the next month ^_~
Is Moneyball going to be in that pile?
It is! With the Brothers K, The Unconsoled, On the Road, and possibly a book of letters I picked up the other day.
Find the cord, please? :-)
**laughs** I think I left it at home, but I think the comps in the library have memory card slots.

I don't know about this season of 24. I got caught up yesterday - I'm finding the Jack stuff interesting but Wayne Palmer makes me nuts and I'm disappointed 24 went back to the 'the muslim neighbors are sekritly terrorists!' well. Curtis' exit isn't sitting right with me either.

Curtis lasted longer than I thought he would -- he had sacrificial lamb written all over him from the get-go -- but I'm with you in that I didn't like how he went out. Wayne Palmer is making the wrong decisions, but unlike Logan last year, I can see where he's coming from.

On Friday, I tried to give my Am Lit students a lesson on why exactly it is that they had Monday off and why they should appreciate everything that the Civil Rights movement has accomplished. I hope some of them, at least, got the message.
I honestly worry about kids these days. My boyfriend informed me that he actually heard kids on World of Warcraft saying of Rosa Parks (immediately after her death), "That n***** should've just moved to the back of the bus." Charming, isn't it?

Very cool - did you all read selections from anything in particular, or just a discussion?

Ugh. Sadly, I'm not surprised. There is still a lot of ugliness out there. That's why it makes me bristle like crazy when people try to act like if we just don't talk about race it will magically stop being an issue.
