Apparently the laptop has not yet been built that can hang with me. Somehow, in the process of walking from Sales to Family Law, I busted a screen hinge on my Gateway. (Don't ask me how.) I'm slightly amused because it's been just under a year since I cracked the LCD screen on my HP and had to buy the Gateway. So I'm averaging a laptop a year. Good thing this is my last year of school, I suppose ^_~

Anyone have any idea how much something like this costs to fix? I have a sneaking suspicion it will set me back at least a couple hundred bucks, so I might as well just buy a new comp.

Oh man! That sucks. :( I have no idea what fixing it might cost, but I hope it isn't too much.

I wonder if it's a law school thing since you're the only one I know (besides myself) who's back in school already. ;)

I guess we'll see! I'll call Gateway in the morning.

lol, it is CLEARLY a lawschool thing. I mean, I use my computer all summer with no problems, and then the second I come back to school, BAM! Computer drama.

aww. poor laptop! maybe i can use my superpowers to fix it?

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

**laughs** Please try. But I think your superpowers can only be used for evil.

I'm the same way with cameras. Thankfully they don't cost as much as laptops, but they're still a pretty penny.

Hopefully it won't cost you your right arm to fix it.

I pretty much suck at all electronic equipment? CD players, cameras, computers... It's the reason I've steadfastly refused to buy an ipod. I just know I would break it, sooner rather than later.

Hope springs eternal!

Continuing to subconsciously break your tech-toys in order to get new stuff is like the third step to full blown tech-nerdom. Replacing your broke tech, with temporary tech to hold you over until your can get your proper tech is step number three. Say, how many cameras did you buy this summer? ;)

You'll be typing in binary in two years. And when you can know that: 01001001 01101101 00100000 01110011 01101111 00100000 01110000 01110010 01101111 01110101 01100100.

lol, look, I only ended up with one camera, and that is what matters :P

I do not want shit to break on me all the time - it just does!

It's gonna cost you more then $100, don't you have warranty?

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

Nope! My mom isn't a believer in service plans (though I've definitely become one, and when my brother bought his laptop, I told him he had to buy extra warranty coverage), so my laptop is only under the limited 1 year warranty. Which doesn't cover damage caused by 'accident or abuse' or whatever, and I am fairly sure that when I call, they will say that's why the hinge broke. I honestly have no idea what happened, it was fine when I walked out of Sales, and then I walked into my second class and it was busted. But I have had the computer for a year, and I use it for several hours every day. I'm calling Gateway in the morning to see if they'll fix it. If it's covered by warranty, great. If it's not, but will cost under $200 to fix...I might just pay that and have them fix it. If it's anything more than that, I'm just gonna buy a new laptop.

I guess it's a good thing I didn't spend ALL the money I earned this summer on baseball ^_~

Not related to your laptop problem, but I've been having a shitload of trouble with my Dell...well, with all PC's I've come in contact with lately, really. (maybe I'm sending bad vibes or something) I've been thinking about switching to a Mac, but I don't know enough about them to convince me they're any better. :-P

Hope you can get it fixed cheaply. If not, a new laptop sounds like a nice going-back-to-school incentive. :-D

Man, EVERYONE with a DELL seems to have had their share of problems :/ For what it's worth, [Bad username or site: offspeed / @ livejournal.com] has a mac and she seems to have problems with that, too :P

I called Gateway, and they're gonna fix it for free! It must be a common problem, because they didn't ask me anything about how it happened. I was pretty thrilled ^_^

STUPID ELECTRONICS!!!

I have a Gateway laptop so I'm curious how you/they handle this. Keep us posted. ;-)

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

I NOES.

I called them today, and it must be a fairly common problem because without asking me how it happened, they authorized a return for repair, free of charge ^_^ I'll be without my comp for about a week, which will suck, but I'll survive.
