Cuba - 3
Dom. Rep. - 1

And The Powers That Be weren't even gonna let those kids play in the tournament, people. Twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, and making $25 a month playing ball in Cuba. Pujols, Tejada, Ortiz - names that make major leaguers crap their pants and these guys come into this thing and they battle, and they play hard, and they contain them. There's gonna be a lot of emphasis put on the fact that the Cubans are in midseason form and most of the other tourney participants weren't. But that's just noise. I think what they've done in this thing is pretty incredible, and I'm way jazzed to see them play an undefeated Korea in the Championship.

(And if I just jinxed Korea, seeing them play Japan will still be fun, too.)

I agree. They clearly wanted to show people what they could do, and they haven't wasted the chance. I know when this thing first started, a lot of people were talking about the 'mystique' of Team Cuba, but even after seeing them play a couple games, I definitely didn't think they would make it this far. Every game with them that I've watched, the announcers have spent 6 or 7 innings talking about how oddly the Cubans have approach these games (as far as how they handle their pitchers, or how vocal some of their players are), but you know what? Clearly not just a run of luck, how well the Cubans had done in other international competition.

Hi there, Followed a link via [livejournal.com profile] little_details and I'm going to friend if that's cool ... I have an unnatural love for all things Sorkin, and an unnatural crush on Ben Miles. ^_^ And your icons are pretty sweet, too. *tips hat*

**laughs** Hi! Thanks! Feel free to friend away. And don't feel bad about defriending if you realize this was all a mistake in a couple days - it's getting to be the time of the year when every other entry I write is about baseball, and I'm sure that can get repetitive and wearisome for people who aren't fans ^_~ I'm friending you back, since I just did an F-list cut and could use some fresh reading material ^_^

*gasp* And you love Alias and Homicide: Life on the Street and Firefly too. This is what I get for not reading the sidebars first. *squeeees*

*wears her Jack/Irina Shipper Fo Lyfe button, yo*

Hey cool, another HLOTS fan! **high-fives** To be honest, I stopped watching Alias last year, so I'm more of a lapsed fan than a true devotee. Though with this being the last year (!!!), I imagine I'll catch up on it over the summer.

Nice button. I approve of Jack/Irina shippers :-P

I adore Homicide. Or I did at least until it got crappy. (i.e. I could put up with Ballard for only so long. XD) I loved Lewis, Bayliss, Pembleton, Gee. Kellerman I didn't mind too much, but eh. Bayliss will always be my favourite. ^_^
