04. // 15. // 24.

Administrative Notes:
++ If you lift any of the first 25, credit and a comment is appreciated.
++ #26-45 are bases. I did very little to them besides crop, sharpen, and brighten a touch. Edit to your heart's desire. Credit is not necessary, though a comment would be cool. I'll forgo sharing bases in the future if there's no interest in them. It's just less coding for me when it comes time to post.
++ Brushes and gradients credited in my user info ^_^

My friend [Bad username or site: johnnybvo / @ livejournal.com] on my newfound interest in the boys of Oakland, recent past and present: "Well, I'm glad you found a way to extend this season. Cause you get right crabby in November usually, and just before spring training? unbearable." Heh.
17. I was originally gonna caption this one "Nice pants", but my inner twelve-year old won out.
18. Seriously. Worst. Throwback Unis. EVER.
21. Fan grabbing some dirt after the last game at Busch. I love this picture. You know, there was almost WAY more of a Cards/Braves/Mets/Astros presence in this post, and then I remembered I don't care about the National League. This picture's cool, though :-P
24. I don't know. I really don't.
26-45. There are, no joke, perhaps a total of 5 images out there in the world of Mike Mussina in uniform and smiling. I wish to God I knew the context of what's going down in #37. I like to imagine Jorge and Derek are about to throw down over Moose's affections ^_~

I emailed TPTB at Gettyimages to let them know they had 4 photos of Kevin Brown and 1 photo of Jason Giambi miscaptioned as pictures of Moose. Man, doesn't anyone take pride in doing their job right anymore? Jason Giambi. I mean, honestly.

Aww; I'm so pleased you liked some of them!

as if i don't have enough of those already. ;)

**laughs** I know! You have my admiration though. Way to be :-P

shhhh, don't speak of such things! :P he's going to re-sign.

You know, I was (quite uselessly) trying to predict what might happen, given the recurring elbow trouble last year. Like what kind of year would he need to have for the Yanks to want to bring him back? He's getting kind of up there in years. I really hope the elbow doesn't become a problem again :-/

I like to pretend it hasn't been on my mind lately, but I've definitely wondered and silently angsted about the possibility that this could be his last season in pinstripes, and possibly (God forbid) baseball. I know years ago he'd said he didn't see himself pitching past 35 or 36, and he's past that now. So will he want to keep pitching for a few more years? And will the Yankees want to sign him again? I do think it will depend on how his elbow holds up this season. If he can avoid the DL and have a good season, I think the Yanks might offer him a year or two, and honestly I don't see him wanting to pitch beyond that. Thinking about him retiring absolutely kills me, but it's going to happen sometime soon, I imagine. :\

Well, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in already worrying about the retirement question (http://www.livejournal.com/users/ayrdaomei/215707.html?thread=1735579#t1735579) :-/ Moose has never struck me as one of those guys who NEEDS the game, you know? One of those guys who will hang around way too long because they just don't know what else to do with themselves? He's got his high school coaching gigs, and his work with Little League baseball, and of course, his wife and his young ones.

Last year, in the games where he struggled you could just see the frustration and disgust on his face. There's no getting back what he's lost off his fastball, but I agree with you, if he can stay healthy and put up respectable numbers, I imagine he'll come back for at least a year. Especially if he still hasn't gotten that ring ^_~ But if he struggles, and if he can't pitch to win, I can't see him coming back after next year either. Especially if he can't play for a team within a reasonable distance of PA. It won't be one of those things where he'll go anywhere that's willing to give him a shot.

Thinking about him retiring absolutely kills me, but it's going to happen sometime soon, I imagine. :\

I know. Damn things that have to happen sooner or later. Stupid real world. Why can't they stay young and perfect and part of the game forever, just like in our heads? >.>

I know exactly what you mean. I've always felt that when he feels it's time to hang 'em up, he won't prolong it. He's got a full life outside of baseball, and he's not one for the fame and the press, so I don't see him lingering on.

Last year, in the games where he struggled you could just see the frustration and disgust on his face.

God, it broke my heart, seeing that. I know a lot of it had to do with his elbow since he was pitching through an injury for months, but it's still hard to see guys fade. But when he's on, he's still just as on as he ever was, you know? That knuckle curve still makes my knees weak, and that change can still be completely filthy. So I guess I'm crossing my fingers for just a bit more. I'm not ready to see him go yet. :\

Man, I tell you. I've only had to really deal with that once before, having one of my very favorite players retire, and that nearly broke me in two. That was after '01 when Paul O'Neill retired. He was my hero growing up, which probably had a lot to do with the fact that he was my dad's favorite, too. :P And the way we lost that series, it just made it so much worse. I wanted him to go out in the best way possible, and for it all to crumble with one damned bloop single...well. It was tough. But now, with Moose? I've become even bigger of a fan than I was then, and I just can't imagine how it'll feel not to see him out there every 5th day. It's unavoidable and it's a part of the game, but it doesn't make it any easier.

Well, now that I've thoroughly rambled. ;p I'm adding you to my f-list because I find your posts interesting, but don't feel you have to do the same, since I do talk Yanks a lot and I know they're not your favorite. ;)

But when he's on, he's still just as on as he ever was, you know?

Was he? I have to admit, it seemed every game of his I caught in '05 was one of those where he was pitching okay...and then things just went crazy in the middle innings :-/ I did see one game from earlier in the year...maybe May? Against the Athletics I think. He pitched a shutout I think but it was taking him longer to put guys away than I remembered. Fuckers kept fouling off pitches they never would have had a prayer of catching up to back in the day.

Actually, if you can remember any particularly good starts of his from last season, I'd love to check them out. I don't need exact dates, if you can give me a general month, I can track the game down myself.

So I guess I'm crossing my fingers for just a bit more. I'm not ready to see him go yet. :\

I can get behind that sentiment.

I do talk Yanks a lot and I know they're not your favorite. ;)

**laughs** Well I'm glad SOMEONE GOT THAT MEMO :-P Yeah. Cause I totally hate the Yankees. Yeeeeup :-P
