Saw Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa this weekend. I was not a big fan of the first one, but the daughter of a family friend wanted to see it, so I took her. Surprisingly, it was one of those rare sequels that is better than the original; I enjoyed it. The penguins got a lot more to do in this one, which was great because pretty much everything they do or say cracks me up. It was a little saddening to hear Bernie Mac's voice again, though.

The trailer for Monsters & Aliens ran beforehand. Terrible title aside, it looks rather funny. Between M&A and Up, 2009 might not be a bad year for CGI-y animated films.

While I was across the bridge, I also went to BJ's, where I spotted all the seasons of Babylon 5 for $18.99 a piece. Aggravating, that. You know, since I distinctly recall buying seasons 3 and 4 from BJ's for at least $50 a piece when they were first released. I hate when that happens! I usually avoid it by not buying any boxsets until they've been out for a year or two, but I do love me some Babylon 5, and the lure of commentary tracks was too much.

On the plus side, BJ's also had all five seasons of La Femme Nikita for $18.99 a piece. So tempting! I ended up buying season 1, because I fail at not buying more stuff until I watch the stuff I have. What can I say, me and that show go back. Like I'm pretty sure I belonged to a usenet group for that show back. Peta Wilson has such a great face, and for my money, her Nikita had one of the sexiest voices on tv. I loved the way her Australian accent refused to be suppressed entirely, and she had that husky thing going? I was a fan. Plus that show had great music. I have no idea if the show holds up - I haven't seen an episode in at least 8 years - but I figured it's worth $19 to find out ;)

Oh man, I remember when I almost had it written into my planner when La Femme Nikita was on. That show was so awesome. Though I must admit that, like you, I haven't watched an episode of it in years so I might have put the show on a pedestal. *lol* But back then, at least, it totally ruled! ;)

**high-fives** It was appointment tv for me, too. At least for the first 3 seasons; I can't remember why now, but I stopped watching after that. Probably had something to do with what the writers were doing with Nikita/Michael. Did you watch all 5 years?

I haven't seen them all. I think I watched the first 3, maybe even the 4th. But I have no idea how the show ended. =P It might have been that they didn't show the final season on tv here.. But more likely they did and I had moved on to something else by then.
I think it's a pretty safe bet that what they did with the pairing made me lose interest too. But truth be told, it's so long ago that I can't even remember what precisely happened with me and the show! :D

Really? I liked the original better. But I admit, I sat there scratching my head wondering why Alex's dad sounded so familiar. Then when the credits were rolling, I was shocked to see Mac's name. It's such a shame he died.

My brothers are in love with the trailer for Monsters and Aliens. And they're fascinated by the mysteriousness and uniqueness of the trailer for Up.

Yep! I've mostly repressed the first one, so I don't remember why I didn't like it, but I do know I laughed a lot more during this one. I suspect also there may have been far too much King Julian in the original for me.

The Up teaser is neat :) I don't really want to know too much more about the film going in, so I'm going to try hard to avoid any more spots for it between now and when the movie comes out.

My brother got a copy* of Madagascar 2 for my sister, but we haven't watched it yet. Good to know that it is better than the first one.

I remember La Femme Nikita ... it was on USA network, no? I watched a couple of episodes, but my English wasn't good enough then to understand it that much ...

* Shhh! It's a pirated copy he got at this flea market he goes to from time to time. :-X

Well, your mileage may vary, of course, but according to my sample size of 4 people it seems that people who liked the first film don't much like this sequel, and the reverse is true :P

Yeah, LFN was indeed on USA. I think it was one of USA's first legitimate hits; it was on pre-Monk, and Psych, and the various L&O incarnations.
