"The way my shoulder has been, I don't really see it getting better. At best, it's going to be maintained. The rest of this year and the beginning of next year will tell the story for the rest of my career. ... Whether surgery happens or not is not my call, really," Chavez said. "I've yet to hear definitive answers from anybody that would let me sleep well at night." -- Chavez pessimistic about shoulder, season

(Clearly the truncated version of that headline. The long version must have read "...life, the universe, everything.")

What a tragic pair Mark and Chavvy make these days. And where's my Mulder/Chavvy icon when I need it?

Harden struck out 10 again (that's three straight games with double digit strikeouts) but won't get a decision...again. OH WELL. Seriously, James, it's fun to watch and all, but maybe you should work at putting balls into play instead of striking everyone out and then you could go deeper into games, man. Just an idea. (I can't take five inning starters seriously, sorry.)

kid, kid. they were always tragic. now they're like a murder-suicide pact. it is some rough stuff. although it makes me feel better, because it turns out i wasn't meaner to chavez than life was! who woulda thought.

True enough, the poor bastards. At least we'll always have the sunburn licks.

lol, not me. But it turns out the universe just does not want him to be happy. You're off the hook.

As much as I love the dominance of Rich's 30 Ks, the 5 inning thing is killing me. Especially seeing as our bullpen and offense is tehsuck.

Right? I'd forgotten he threw over a hundred pitches last time out, but still. He's got to figure out a way to be out there at least 6 innings, if he's gonna take the mound at all.

I heard about that during yesterday's game, the few innings I actually had the audio on. Eriiiiiiic, you poor man.

Rich threw 87 pitches. That's it. I wonder why he got pulled. They didn't do a double switch when he came out. CONSPIRACY TIME.

No injury announcement yet, and he did throw 110+ pitches on Monday night. It may just be that TPTB don't want to push him. But I have to wonder how long the fanbase and media are going to be okay with this kind of coddling.

I hear now that his 87 pitches was because he threw 112 pitches Monday. I thought he had a STRICT pitch count of 100. I guess Piniella only sticks to the pitch count when it's convenient for him.

I think the fans are okay with it and blame their problems on the bullpen. It makes me giggle.

I don't think that Rich tried to K 10 Marlins. It just sort of...happens, considering the Marlins swing at everything that comes within 20 feet of them.

lol, that's what Rich said in the postgame, except a little nicer ("They were...pretty aggressive.").
