+ I rather like the idea of this tracking feature thing. Because you know there are those people whose posts on a particular topic are of interest to you, but not the other 732 things they post about way too frequently for your tastes? (I'm sure people have felt the same way about me ^_~) I end up removing people like that from my f-list after a while, and I just check in on them periodically. But now with the neato tracking feature letting me know when they've posted under a certain tag, I can keep up with them a little better without having to put them back on my regular reading list. Nifty. In fact, how awesome that you can now track people's posts for a while without adding them to your f-list before you've really gotten a feel for them? I'm a fan.
+ ETA on the laptop is Monday morning! It was sent overnight from the service center on Thursday, but I called DHL Friday afternoon only to find out that it had been delayed at their sorting facility in Ohio. It would have arrived in VA today, I guess, but they don't do weekend delivery, so the fastest way for me to get it in hand is to pick it up myself on Monday morning. And pick it up I damn well shall. Hopefully I get it, and it's fine (Gateway tried to get me to approve a replacement of the motherboard, which is why it was held up on their end so long). If not, I'll be hitting up Best Buy or Circuit City for a new comp.
+ Cali people! Say, hypothetically speaking, one were going to be out in Oakland for 4 or 5 days early next summer. Besides avoiding one's estranged uncle and observing the Athletics in their natural habitat, what are a couple things one would definitely want to try to do while one's out there? Last time I was out there was when I was looking at colleges, and we did the curvy street thing in San Fran, and checked out that Fisherman's Wharf place with the weird metallic painted dancing people, but that was pretty much it.
+ More generally, A's fans: Ebay being the wallet-suck that it is, I bought a set of the A's player magnets that were given away at the ballpark earlier this year and split them with [Bad username or site: rickenbacker / @ livejournal.com]. I put my 8 on my fridge and they made me very happy. I figured if 8 made me happy, how much happier would I be with the complete set of 16? So I bought a second set of the player magnets. If you'd like one of the dupes, lemme know, and I'll drop it in the mail to you. I'll say one per person right now, though I imagine some guys will go unclaimed (**pets Kiko**), and if that happens, you're welcome to more than one. I figure give it a day and check back? Anyway, here are the guys I have dupes of:
Eric Chavez, Mark Ellis, Milton Bradley, Dan Haren, Nick Swisher, Frank Thomas, Kiko Calero, Joe Blanton, Justin Duchscherer.
(And yes, that's 9 magnets. My Mark Ellis dupe comes courtesy of the guy I buy most all my A's SGA stuff on ebay from. He combines shipping, sends stuff out right away, and always includes a little something extra. Which is how he keeps getting me to spend money I don't have.)
+ The cover of next week's People magazine has Jessica Simpson on it, with quotes from her people about how head over heels she allegedly is for John Mayer. How embarassing that Mayer and his people have been falling all over themselves to emphatically state that next to nothing went on between him and Jessica and they are not an item. Awwwwkward.

I hope yours gets back soon, but hey, it's always fun buying new, expensive but useful things.
You already know my opinion on the Simpson/Mayer...thing, but I will definitely second that awwwwkward

This is true :P And a lot of things have become standard on computers that weren't standard a year ago, you know? Now even a computer that costs 400-500 dollars comes standard with 512 MB of RAM, a dvd/cd burner, and 80 GB of memory. My laptop originally came with 256 MB of RAM, a cd burner, and 60 GB of memory. I don't care so much about the RAM or the extra gigs of memory, but having a dvd burner would be pretty sweet. We'll see.
I will definitely second that awwwwkward
Hee. I knew you would.

But if you're looking for specific SF stuff to do, you could stroll along the Haight, walk across the bridge, eat hot dogs from a street vendor in Union Square. (Well, I don't know how the hot dogs are, so don't trust me on that.) Definitely get some food in China Town.
And even though you're here to see the A's, you MUST see a Giants game at ATT park, if only just to marvel in the majesty of the park :)
Oh! If it happens to be May when you're visiting, you should consider doing Bay to Breakers with me :) www.baytobreakers.com

LOL, okay.

Aw, China Town. Which should definitely have been on my list just because I was such a Kung Fu: The Legend Continues geek when I was younger.

Oh definitely! I wouldn't fly all the way out to another state and pass up an opportunity to check out another ballpark. I don't know if the Giants are typically in town when the A's are in town during interleague play, but I figure even if they're out of town, a ballpark tour or something should be doable ^_^

Ahahaha, that depends. Would you be hardcore running, or could I dress up like a penguin and jog/stroll at a leisurely pace while people watching? ^_~ If I recall correctly though, interleague play didn't start up this year until mid-June, and if I end up in CA it would most likely be between then and maybe early July.
Thanks for the recs!

I'm so freaking happy :P The thing with delivery is I know their delivery timing by heart at this point, having forlornly watched the DHL truck come and go for the past two weeks (which is just as pathetic as it sounds). They deliver to our campus around 10am which is when I'm supposed to be in Sales. So if I left it to them to deliver on Monday, I'd come back from class to a little slip that said "Whoops, we tried to deliver it, but you weren't here. We'll try again tomorrow." Which would drive me MAD at this point. But the DHL lady said I could pick it up from them at the area facility around 9am. So that will be good.

this is basically the list my brother sent me a couple of years ago when i had a friend coming to visit and was all, there's only so much time we can spend in the castro and on the haight. i also fiendishly second the proposal that you go to at&t park. because you have not seen baseball till you've seen it with a view of the water.
From:

I'd love to catch a game at AT&T, which I keep calling PacBell! It would be great if both teams are in town at the same time, but I rarely have such good luck. Baseball gods willing, and such. At the very least, we should be able to get in a ballpark tour.

Man...laptops sound like they're more trouble than they're worth. Always breaking, fritzing and the like...can't they make them more durable, or improve the design? Yeesh.
I know, easy for me to say who knows nothing about engineering or such things. I want things like the PADDs on TNG, myself. You know, calculator-size PCs.

Have you seen the new Bond trailer, btw? I really enjoyed it. If you haven't, I'll snag the audio for you if I can, and take a few screencaps of the new footage ^_^ Once I have a laptop in hand, of course.

LOL, yeah. But to be fair, I use my laptop A LOT. Too much, to be honest with you. The longest I go without using it is if I'm over at a friend's watching a movie or something :P And I've never had good luck with electronic stuff, which is why I refuse to spring for an ipod, even though I know having so much music with me always would make me happy. Walkmans, cd players, cellphones, cameras...they don't last with me. My mom says I'm not "gentle" >.>

well last time i said that you'll get it later this week, what i really meant was that you'll get it within the next week! hehehe.
you know what i've always wanted to do in the bay area? GO TO THE MORMON TEMPLE. but that's just me. and i'm just weird.
From:

Hee, I don't think it's weird! Is it pretty? There's a huge Mormon temple on the drive from Baltimore to DC. It looks like a Disney castle or something, from afar. I've always kinda wanted to visit :P
(Randomly, I was watching part of the marathon of Monk on Friday while I was waiting for my computer that never arrived. I stopped watching religiously at some point during the second season, but it was the ep with the college kid murdered in Mexico, and the whole storyline with Adrien refusing to drink anything always slays me.)

Buena suerte con el laptop-o.
When I went up to the bay area last summer, we saw a concert at Pac Bell/Giants stadium, saw live music at a small club, did the Wharf, walked Haight (Amoeba!! KidRobot!!)... Spent virtually no time in Oakland besides the games, though I had to visit Jack London Square just to say I'd done it.
I'll take the Swisher magnet off your hands... Who is the eBay seller you like? I have some money I can't spend but want to!
From:

LOL, yes, well. I think the biggest thing is that no one can track a post that they wouldn't be able to see otherwise, you know? So if you're posting something public, it's out there for anyone to see anyway, whether they've got you friended, or just bookmarked. There have been times in the past when I've gotten all weird about who's reading my journal and how often, but if it doesn't bother me enough to make me start posting friends only then I can't really complain.
Buena suerte con el laptop-o.
Gracias!
Oh, live music at a small club would be grand! I wouldn't plan too much, because I know how lazy I am, but I know if I make a point of wanting to do certain things ahead of time, I'm much less likely to just spend my time watching Sportscenter reruns in the hotel room between games ^_~

Cool - email me your snail mail info? (ayrdaomei AT gmail DOT com)
Who is the eBay seller you like? I have some money I can't spend but want to!
TopRamen is my homeboy - his seller page is here (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZtopramen99). I've bought almost all my Oakland stadium giveaway stuff from him, and he's very cool. Always willing to hold on to stuff for a few days until another auction ends so he can combine shipping for you if you win. And he doesn't gouge on shipping, which I really appreciate, because that's all sellers seem to do now. I also like this chick (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZjennwwllQQssPageNameZSTRKQ3aMEWNQ3aMESOI) for some stuff. She doesn't include extras, and she only has more recent stuff to offer, but her auctions tend to end more cheaply than similar stuff from other sellers that are more established, because I guess not too many people have discovered her yet.

me talk pretty
I personally plan to use it just to keep track of people whose baseball posts I enjoy, but who cared way more than I did about football/basketball/hockey/boys they knew, and keeping them friended meant I was scrolling through too many posts each day. There's also this girl I had friended for a minute who did pretty neat random music posts, but other than that, we had nothing in common. I ended up defriending her, even though I enjoyed her music posts. Now I can just have lj notify me whenever she puts a music post up. Sweet.

I didn't have anyone to tell the good news -- I'm the only one awake -- so I told M&Z. They were kinda cranky from being woken up, but I think they're happy for you. And me. And themselves, because if you're around again, I won't have to talk to them so much.
