Alright, so the trailer opens in a very stylish black and white. The car slowly pulls up. We hear M's voice:
This may be too much for a blunt instrument to understand...

***
We get two quick shots of James beating up some poor sod in a men's room

***
...any thug can kill...

***
We get several shots in rapid succession. A man, in his office, hears a noise. He turns around...

***
Shot of James with his weapon drawn, an exposed flash of the same shot, and then a shot of the man flying back, in black and white, and then in reverse black and white.

***
I want you to take your ego out of the equation.

***
As the elevator doors open, we hear James's voice: So you want me to be half-monk...

***
...half-hitman.

***
It's not a question.

***
M: I knew it was too early to promote you. This slow motion shot of M flashes into our first good look at our new 007.

***
(I ♥ this shot.)

***
James: Well, I understand 00s have a very short life expectancy.

***
And with that, we're off to the races. **laughs** The familiar Bond theme kicks in, though it sounds jazzed up and faster than usual to my ears.
The remainder of the trailer is a bunch of quick shots, explosions, drums, bullets, yay action! stuff.

Our Bond girl! Eva (is that her name?) is one of those chicks in the vein of Katie Holmes where sometimes she's really pretty! And other times you're like "hmm...not so much."

***
The Baddie, I assume! Who actually looks like he could be related to our Bond Girl! Drama?

***
LOL. Okay. So I'm a fan of Dan's, but something I noticed really early in this trailer - the pursed lips. They are characters unto themselves.
Also, I'm gonna have to Say No to those trunks. Though I vote a definite yes to the muscle definition - way to go, Danny. I approve, man.

***
Bond Girl #2! Who looks too much like Bond Girl#1 if you ask me, but you didn't.

***
Uh, okay? Not really sure why PB's resized this image. Booo, PB. There's this whole sequence where James appears to be chasing this guy and the guy is leaping tall buildings in a single bound. It's crazy. (Okay, not really. But he's totally jumping all over this construction site!)

***
James and his no touchy face.

***
Oh, nice try sneaky vaguely Arab guy wearing too much gaudy gold jewelry. But I think not.

***
Because it's not a Bond film unless there's a boat sequence.

***
Or a scene where Bond beats up some African peons. There are a bunch of shots of James being fired upon and pistol whipping some dudes and shooting some other dudes.

***
Ahhahaah. Man-nipples. Man-nipples are hilarious to me.

***
Don't tell me - this is a shout out to the original film right?

***
I really like this title card.

Yeah, I'm pretty much there. At least twice, I suspect.

If you want to see more of him, I can recommend The Green Butchers (http://imdb.com/title/tt0342492/) and Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself (http://imdb.com/title/tt0329767/), depending on your mood. ;D
Bond girl No 1 is Eva Green, best known for her role as Sibylla (http://imdb.com/gallery/ss/0320661/Ss/0320661/KOH-323.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Green,%20Eva) in Kingdom of Heaven.
In general I have nothing against the trailer, but I find the last shot, when he looks into the camera, a bit unfortunate.

I know of Mads, but I never got around to seeing King Arthur so I don't know his work in that film.

AHA. Thank you! I was trying to figure out where I knew her from! I figured I must have just seen her in magazine ads or something. I actually thought she was pretty good in King Arthur, so that's pleasing news.

I've watched Friday Night Lights. There were already a lot of opinions about FNL but since I now rather unexpectedly have a very strong opinion myself I wanted to add mine.
The movie doesn't tell a unique story and it doesn't contain any surprises. But it tells the story in a way that I very much like and even if it's the wrong word, enjoy. Yes, it is depressing as hell, but as weird as it may sound, it's the good kind. It doesn't contain a maudlin score and no unnecessary dialogue. It shows you what's going on and you get the picture accompanied by a very fitting soundtrack. I think it's a great movie.
What might be a bit of a problem is an always shaking camera. I'm pretty sure I would've gotten dizzy if I had seen this on a big theatre screen.
I'm not familiar with Varsity Blues that you mentioned but I looked it up and from what I can see I reach the conclusion that the two movies don't have much in common.
As for the question of how much you should know about football. I would say that you should have some basic knowledge since there's a lot of it. But it's not vital since the story can be about every sport and everybody can see what the movie is about.
I almost guarantee you that you will bawl your eyes out during at least half of the movie but when you're in the right mood I think you will like it.

Personally, I've put it on my amazon watch list. But I would say first recording it on a DVR is the best approach since I'm unable to predict for certain how you will react.

I can't wait to see this now!!
For this lovely act of fandom kindness I will put together BabyMarlins picspam for you. :-D
Man, I didn't know what I'd think seeing a blond Bond. But I think I will be just fine with it. Daniel Craig definitely has the look of a Bond too. Almost a slight echo of vintage Sean Connery to him.
Oh it's been too damn long! I am so looking forward to a new Bond movie.
