Ah, Daylight Savings. The universe empathizes with me for once, and kicks me an hour closer to the first pitch of the 2006 season.

+ I was checking my messages yesterday while I was waiting for a friend at the movies (saw Ice Age 2; enjoyable, but a little too adult at times. The first film was way more subtle in its appeal to multiple age groups) and there was a message from [Bad username or site: nyychick23513 / @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: panicqueen / @ livejournal.com] about Munson making the Astros roster as backup catcher. Y'all are THE BIGGEST DORKS EVER. It amused the hell out of me.
+ The Palm Beach Post has this little '60 Seconds With...' featurette they've been doing all spring. Sixty Seconds with Mike Jacobs & Sixty Seconds with David Eckstein. Just a bit of silliness, really. Hilariously, David Eckstein is a huge pro wrestling fan. They spend their minute with Mikey J asking him about his hair. Btw, his "it ain't no three step process, it's just good hair" makes me even more convinced he's a mutt of some kind. I mean, come on. I've never heard a white person refer to "good hair". Right me if I'm wrong, people. Also, he mentions his mom! He's always talking about his mom. I ♥ him, y'all. I want so badly for him to do well.
+ Nick the Greek made the team; sweet. I look forward to seeing new blood play, though I hear he's not exactly a bucket of laughs. Markakis jerseys, number 61, already dotted the crowd yesterday. <-- lol, what? Nice. Starved for anything remotely positive to cling to with this team? Us?
+ This snippet of an Olney interview with Roy O makes me even more anxious for the April 10 issue of ESPN the Magazine.
+ “[Zack’s] progressing nicely at this point,” general manager Allard Baird said Wednesday. “He sounds happy, but there is still no official timetable for when he will return.” . . .Several sources told The Star that Greinke recently underwent a formal psychological evaluation to determine the specific nature of his emotional issues. Those same sources said treatment through medication is likely. . .“He seems to be doing better,” manager Buddy Bell said. “He’s beginning to talk about coming back. That’s a good sign.” -- Greinke making progress.
+ Okay, I know I said the Orioles could take a flying fuck at a rolling donut this season, AND THEY CAN, but I sat down with the Orioles schedule, and I think I might do an Indians game in April, a Royals game in May, the Marlins in June, and the A's in July. I am loathed to directly fork over money to Angelos and co, but those are all teams I'd like to see play. I saw the Indians a couple times last year, but that before I really had any concept of them beyond 'that team that Sandy and Robbie played on.' I've never seen the Royals, Marlins or the A's at OPCY, so that will be different. My brother may or may not have gotten June tickets to the Nats @ O's for my birthday. I am debating whether I want to bother with any NYY games this season. After the last two years, I'm actually kind of tired of them, but if Moose is scheduled to pitch while here, I suppose I should try to catch the game, as this could be his last season.
Btw, the Orioles organization could gain a lot of points with me if the jersey sleeves for this season bear Elrod's number in memoriam. I have no expectation of this. Surprise me, assholes. For once.
+ MLB goes after Sox for boorish behavior. [Nelson laugh] I was just thinking the Sox had become like the Angels of the late 90s, when they were under that wild ass manager? And there was that season where they seemed to be in a brawl every time you turned around? Or maybe that's just how I remember it.
+ Walker was tapped for the 2B job with the Cubs, which means that Hairston-to-the-Marlins thing might be closer to reality, maybe. I know Jerry's got family in the Illnois area, so I don't know if he's happy to just play wherever they need him, or if he'd agitate for a move somewhere so he could play more regularly. It would be kind of neat if Jerry went to the Marlins, since I'm following them this year anyhow.
+ Indians General Manager Mark Shapiro has been a fierce defender of veteran third baseman Aaron Boone. Shapiro says those outside the team greatly underestimate Boone's behind-the-scenes role as a respected leader among his teammates. And it is striking to see just how respected Boone is by fellow ballplayers, period. Before Thursday's Indians-Detroit Tigers exhibition game, Boone had literally just taken two steps onto the field before Tigers slugger Dmitri Young, warming up far away in the outfield, began bellowing Boone's name - and then stopped his stretching to sprint across the diamond, shake Boone's hand and hug the third baseman. (Boone and Young were Cincinnati Reds teammates). -- Reynolds applauds Tribe's vision; Notes. I find this image of Boone as charismatic clubhouse leader kind of hilarious. He's still just THAT FUCKING GUY to me, for the most part.
+ Newsday's season predictions: Alex Rodriguez and David Wright will win MVPs, Randy Johnson and Roy Oswalt will win Cy Youngs and Prince Fielder and Delmon Young will be the best rookies we've seen in a long time. Mike Hargrove will be the first manager fired. The Tigers and Marlins will surprise people. The Royals and Reds won't.
David Wright as the NL MVP? Oswalt as Cy Young? Works for me ^_^ And I'm really excited about the young crop of black ballplayers. The Rays are treading lightly with Young, but I look forward to seeing him play at the major league level; there's been a lot of hype around that kid. I hope Grover doesn't get fired! And btw, how serious is this talk about Ichiro probably getting traded at some point?
+ Jose Lima got cut, which isn't surprising, cause I watched him get rocked by the Marlins the other day. It's too bad though, because he's fun, from a non-numbers standpoint. Of course, that's easy to appreciate when he's not on your team.
+ Looper's struggles concern Cardinals. I literally laughed out loud when I saw this headline. Not even Opening Day, and there's already trouble for poor Braden. But seriously, what did the Cards expect? Maybe they thought the red and white had magical healing powers. Like the hem of the Savior's garment or something.
11 hours and counting to first pitch ^_~
