I can't seem to turn off The 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the '80s.

I love VH-1's nostalgia shows. Even though I've never heard of half of these songs/artists. The Mary Jane Girls? Taco? Apparently Easy Lover is a duet. Who knew?

The Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana version of the Little Mermaid's Part of Your World? is terrible. TERRIBLE. There is nothing about it that does not exude wrongness. It's so bad I couldn't even bring myself to upload it so you could listen and judge for yourself.

She's a cute little thing and I don't mind what I've seen of her show, but So. Bad.

zomg! Tickets for a Relient K show at the Norva go on sale today! Making this the first time in forever that I grew interested in a band before, and not after, it was time to buy tickets to see them local.

Pam, have you seen them live? You are, like, my resident expert in scrawny white boys in ill-fitting clothes who flail across stages. Would a nonChristian be very uncomfortable at one of their shows? I can handle the occasional bit of praising the Lord, but if they're gonna start testifying and all in the middle of the concert...

[Bad username or site: sensefille / @ livejournal.com], you've seen them live too, yeah? Worth $20?

I figure if they play I So Hate Consequences, Chapped Lips..., and Who I Am Hates Who I've Been, that's worth $20 right there.

Unrelated to the above, but it's really something how listening to Death Cab play Crooked Teeth live has completely turned me around on this song. I think it's my favorite off Plans now.

Oh, and [Bad username or site: belle1446 / @ livejournal.com]: (43mb, mp3) - Aimee Mann on KCRW promoting Lost In Space (08.27.02). Set was The Moth, Humpty Dumpty, Save Me (off Magnolia OST), Lost in Space, Calling It Quits (off Bachelor No.2), Wise Up (off Magnolia OST), Pavlov's Bell.

++ Do people still enjoy Panic!ATD, like when they first dropped? Because I was very into them last semester and now I would really like them to go away. A little.

People I kinda want to see in concert, but can't so much: Timberlake/Pink in March, Fall Out Boy in January, Aimee this week in Richmond. Alas. Sister Hazel was in town this past weekend, which yeah, how did I resist? ;) I got an email notification last week that Thursday's comingt the Norva in late January and I'm back and forth on going. Tickets are only $18 which is of the good. But I only really know/like 6 songs of theirs, and most of those off War All The Time. And then I don't even know about that whole crowd. Okay I'm not really back and forth on going; I'm not gonna go. But I thought about it. Nothing personal, boys.

Is Dallas Green back with Alexisonfire?

++ Zito has made the Mets his collective bitch. Their front office is flying out to Cali to see him today. Classic. "No, I know what New York looks like. You come here and tell me you think I'm pretty."

I mean, I still hope they don't budge too much on the 70mil offer. But Barry William makes me laugh.

++ In case you were wondering, Beyonce's Irreplaceable is just as annoying in Spanish as it is in English.

++ [Bad username or site: johnnybvo / @ livejournal.com]: And the fact that you're falling in love with The Timberlake all over kind of cracks me up. You'll deny it sure, but I just know you're crafting a shrine for dude in the back of your closet...right next to the ones for Jeter and Tom Welling.

>:[ First of all, Tom Welling? When have I...ever? NEVER. That's when. And I just really need to not watch when people I dislike are gonna be on SNL. Because they inevitably win me over a little. (Number of times 'Christmas In A Box' was viewed yesterday? Approximately 157.) Ah well. I can hope for Justin to return to pissing me the fuck off in short order. Derek Jeter certainly did. I have no shrine for the Yankee Asshole Who Leaves Teammates Out To Dry And Then Keeps Denying That's What He's Doing Instead Of Just Shutting Up And Holding His Personal Grudge Quietly. I assure you.

[Bad username or site: belle1446 / @ livejournal.com] asked for Aimee's Forgotten Arm promo appearance on KCRW: individual song uploads )

My first day free and clear of school stuff, so I told myself I would finally clean the apartment, because it's been a mess for about a month now. Like, an i'mpullingshoesoutofmybedwhenIgotosleep mess. So. Yes. Of course, that probably just means I will find the time and inspiration to start scanning A's magazines >.>
Did you know the original (well, stateside, anyway) Yellow Ranger died in a car crash in 2001? I feel like people should tell me these things.

From the better late than never files- Aries Spears' rap impressions. My brother showed me this over Turkey Break and I was just watching it again and it's still remarkable. I think his Jay Z and his Snoop are the best, but my jaw dropped several times; he's very spot-on with some of the vocal nuances of each rapper. Hee. I was kinda reminded of the effortless impressions Sammy Davis Jr used to do of swing and jazz greats. (I know, hush my mouth.)

I've been digging some of the Alice Smith stuff I downloaded recently, so I checked to see if she was gonna be in the area - she JUST played the Norva two weeks ago with Citizen Cope, and she was in Maryland over Thanksgiving break. Story of my musical fandom life :'(

Berkeley Place had a post last week of No Doubt rarities grabbed from here; some of the acoustic stuff and the remixes are good! I'd have linked to the BK post but there was this totally unnecessary and clearly photoshopped image of Gwen flashing chest and I don't even know what that's about. I hear she's still inclined to record with the band, which makes me happy, because I'm not really a fan of her solo stuff.

GWFA has up yet another good cover of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God). This one by Patrick Wolf. He also has the Placebo cover if you don't have that yet.

Best of/favorites/top tracks of the year lists are popping up on the music blogs; always fun. Some stuff to check out, if you're in the market for new music:
++ Yellow Stereo says that's not even his final list...
++ Sneak Moves posted faves, and there's even some hiphop mixed in.
++ ...and Duke over at Late Greats saved me work by putting a post of 'Best Of' links together.
Someone keeps calling me, and I'm not answering the phone because I'm not in the mood. Still, three times in the past 20 minutes.

And granted, whomever it is can't leave a message because I never set up my voicemail. You know why I never set up my voicemail? Because when I set up voicemail on my room phone in the past, people left me messages, messages they expected me to actually listen to and return, and I have never been good at that outside of an office.

I'd unplug the phone but I'd have to get up. And then I'd forget to plug it back in and my mother would yell at me because she called me at 7 in the morning and I didn't answer.

I don't know how anyone can really be my friend and not know how I feel about the phone. I swear, I should hand out a cheatsheet or something.

Anyway.

The new Brand New album finally leaked. And did the boys decide to try a whole new sound or something? I'm no Brand New expert, not even a hard core fan, I just liked a few songs off the last record, but this new one...doesn't sound very much like them. There's less screaming, for one. And the songs are more polished, production-wise, maybe? I like it, mostly. It's just not what I expected.

I did not like the new Everclear, [Bad username or site: phantom_hpuff / @ livejournal.com] :(

Am I fundamentally flawed if I end up never understanding why the Beatles are so amazing? Is it like when someone says to me "god, why do you like baseball? it's so boring!" and then I want to punch them in the face? :/ Because I don't want to be that person. I mean, the two songs that I like, I like A LOT. I should get points for that. Yes.
Except for maybe the first time I saw RENT.

Death Cab was AMAZING.

And, really, I don't know if it was just seeing the guys live for the first time, or the lights, or if being on tour actually suits Ben Gibbard or what, but he seems to have slimmed down some, and while Ben's never been handsome, he's got a pretty decent build right now. And his ass looked really good in those pants. And happily he spent most of the night rocking away in front of where we were standing.

I definitely thought to myself "I would so sleep with him" about 20 times during the show.

But that's just me being a girl, the more important thing for me to say is that if you ever get the chance to see Death Cab For Cutie play live and you're a fan? FUCKING GO. It's a way more high energy show than you'd expect and sooooooo worth it.

so can't remember the setlist, and I know I'm forgetting a bunch of songs but what I do remember hearing )

So awesome.
