I see this sentiment expressed on my f-list fairly often, and from the It's Not Just You files: 25% of Americans have no one to confide in.
Americans have a third fewer close friends and confidants than just two decades ago — a sign that people may be living lonelier, more isolated lives than in the past.
In 1985, the average American had three people in whom to confide matters that were important to them, says a study in today's American Sociological Review. In 2004, that number dropped to two, and one in four had no close confidants at all.
....But some new trends, such as online social networking, may help counter the effect[.]
Btw, I read Bowling Alone for two of my classes in undergrad, and Putnam's thesis is an interesting thing to consider, if you're curious about this sort of stuff.
Things that are naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasty: Cheeseburger donuts?
The Gateway Grizzlies, an independent baseball league team in Sauget, Ill., started selling "Baseball's Best Burger" this month: a $4.50 cheeseburger with two strips of bacon grilled between a sliced Krispy Kreme doughnut. (The glazed sides are flipped to the inside for less mess.)
Ewwwwww.
People who care about the Baltimore Orioles: Chen, Millar, and Hernandez to star in TWIB. That's today's episode.
I made a cup of this new "hot chocolate tea" I picked up the other day, and my brother just swooped in and stole it. lol, wtf.
eta: Heads up, A's fans - there's a piece on Swish in next week's Sports Illustrated. It's not too long; I'll try to scan it if I get a chance.

On the confiding thing: I guess I'm fairly lucky - while I don't feel especially close to many people, I know there are a couple people I could tell things to, if I wanted to/needed to.

As for the TWIB ep, I think that's one of my favorites. & I'd be lying if I said that part about Corey didn't make me teary-eyed. "The Cubs gave up on a great guy." :[

The cereal killer joke made up for it a little though. Chen brings the cheese.
