~ Just saw a commercial for Dan Haren's In My Own Words.

Audio of him claiming "I've always been a family guy. When I leave my kid and go on road trips? I cry." Over images of Danny playing on the floor with his oddly named infant spawn.

What is that?!? That's not fair. You're killing me, FSNAZ. My ovaries can't take that kind of stuff this early in the morning.

~ I apparently cannot take much early in the morning. I have no desire to see Terminator: Salvation, but I just love the use of NIN's The Day The World Went Away in the trailer. Well done, trailer editing person! Does anyone have an mp3 of this remix?

- RIP, Harry Kalas. What a rough way to start out a season.

- All of baseball to wear 42 to honor Jackie Robinson. I'm so pleased! I hated hearing of the guys who wanted to participate in honoring Jackie these last two years, but weren't allowed by their organizations.

- If you were a fan of the original Fast and the Furious, I trust you have already seen Fast & Furious (or TFTF4, which is what it really should be called). If you haven't, get thee to a movie theatre! It's all Brian/Dom, all the time. I loved it. I mean, sure, there are a ton of gratuitous ass shots of random women in hot pants, but they do nothing to disguse the fact that this fourth film in the series is really about Brian/Dom. I admit there are plot holes all over the place, and personally, I didn't think the driving was as much fun as in the first movie, but it's still a really good time. One of these days, I need to find time to search for ficcage. And icons.

- [Bad username or site: johnnybvo / @ livejournal.com] doesn't like it, but I am a fan of the trailer for Public Enemies. **grabby hands** Come out, now. Please.

- I need to get caught up on 24; USA Today says it's finally kicked back into high gear.

- If you have any experience with Prozac and Xanax, and are comfortable talking about it, I'd appreciate it if you'd shoot me an email. I have some questions.

eta: Oh, look. Huston blew his first save as a Rockie yesterday and I missed it. **pets him** Trade him, Colorado! Anywhere that is not Cincinnati sounds good.
Saw Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa this weekend. I was not a big fan of the first one, but the daughter of a family friend wanted to see it, so I took her. Surprisingly, it was one of those rare sequels that is better than the original; I enjoyed it. The penguins got a lot more to do in this one, which was great because pretty much everything they do or say cracks me up. It was a little saddening to hear Bernie Mac's voice again, though.

The trailer for Monsters & Aliens ran beforehand. Terrible title aside, it looks rather funny. Between M&A and Up, 2009 might not be a bad year for CGI-y animated films.

While I was across the bridge, I also went to BJ's, where I spotted all the seasons of Babylon 5 for $18.99 a piece. Aggravating, that. You know, since I distinctly recall buying seasons 3 and 4 from BJ's for at least $50 a piece when they were first released. I hate when that happens! I usually avoid it by not buying any boxsets until they've been out for a year or two, but I do love me some Babylon 5, and the lure of commentary tracks was too much.

On the plus side, BJ's also had all five seasons of La Femme Nikita for $18.99 a piece. So tempting! I ended up buying season 1, because I fail at not buying more stuff until I watch the stuff I have. What can I say, me and that show go back. Like I'm pretty sure I belonged to a usenet group for that show back. Peta Wilson has such a great face, and for my money, her Nikita had one of the sexiest voices on tv. I loved the way her Australian accent refused to be suppressed entirely, and she had that husky thing going? I was a fan. Plus that show had great music. I have no idea if the show holds up - I haven't seen an episode in at least 8 years - but I figured it's worth $19 to find out ;)

[Bad username or site: trailer_spot / @ livejournal.com] has the first official full Wolverine trailer up here.

In the interest of saving you time:

Gambit at 1:29, 1:48, and 1:57.
Ryan Reynolds as Deadwhatshisface at 0:39.
Shot of child!Storm at 1:53.
Glimpse of Emma Frost at 1:56.

They're mostly the same shots of the characters we got in the leaked footage from Comic Con, but there's a new close-up of Gambit, and the picture quality's a lot better, obviously.

I'll see it, surely, but it's a bit amusing to me that Jackman's Wolverine isn't the reason at all. Also I still don't understand what Emma is doing in this movie, but whatever. Because GAMBIT is in it :) :) :)

More coherently - I don't know who's playing younger!Stryker, but I think he's done a pretty good job of recreating Brian Cox's cadence. Well, in the bits they put in the trailer, anyway. Well done, there.

IS THAT A CARD-TWIRLING CAJUN I SEE IN THE LEAKED TRAILER FOR THE WOLVERINE MOVIE?

Yeah, that just bumped Quantum of Solace from the top of the list of Movies I'm Actually Looking Forward To OMG.

Who already knew that? Cause if you knew that and did not share, that is probably a de-friendable offense.

So. Jazzed.

eta: Upon re-viewing, I do believe I see Emma Frost. That's...kinda random.

[Bad username or site: trailer_spot / @ livejournal.com]'s most recent post has links to a full trailer for Transformers and the first teaser for Ocean's 13.

As for Transformers....huh. Way to be like a million times less campy than I was expecting. I don't know how I feel about that, to tell you the truth. I was getting Terminator 2 vibes the whole time. Maybe once we get footage of them speaking (THEY WILL TALK, RIGHT?) I'll warm up to it some. (butomgagentaaron!♥)

And as for Ocean's 13, well I want to be annoyed that they might just keep making progressively crappier sequels to one of my favorite movies FOREVER...

but )

If I said I wasn't so there, I'd be a liar.

Caught up on BSG earlier. I am just so ready for Kara to die. And I hate that, especially since the writers keep focusing storylines on her tired ass. I was never a big Starbuck fan, but at least I could stand her in the first season. Even respected her some. Now I just want her to. Not be alive. Anymore.

That show needs like five times more Sharon.

Saw Memoirs of A Geisha. Pretty movie. I kind of crush on Ken Watanabe. I loved the score. I don't really have much else to say about it. Remember back in the day how I'd write those insanely long reviews after I saw a movie? What was the point of all that? I dunno. We got trailers for Tristan & Isolde, Last Holiday, Marie Antoinette (yo, a big WTFF to this trailer), American Dreamz (every time I see this trailer, I want to **face-palm** at the terrorists in the hot tub), and Dreamgirls (first time, and I knew what it was TWO NOTES IN. Ash and Katie did not seem as excited. It's okay, though. I still win). The last movie I saw with Beyonce in it was Austin Powers 2, but I suppose I will have to bite the bullet.

Ash, I forgot to give you The Hitchhiker's Guide...; I'll stick it in your hanging file. It's actually the 5 stories in one book, but it's not that heavy, so hopefully that's cool. If you have Mulan Memoirs..., may I borrow it?

Also, for the record, Shanghai Triad was the movie I knew Gong Li from. Which has kind of a similar story, except I guess not really. There was a young woman and she had to sleep with some guys she didn't want to sleep with. Drama ensues. And the narrator of the movie is a young boy who works in her household or something. And the end was way more bloody. I dunno, it was on IFC and I was half asleep. I only mention it because I have the soundtrack to that movie, and it was pretty kicking.

We got a tornado warning earlier today. Random much?

[Bad username or site: schnaucl / @ livejournal.com], I saw that you tagged me for that meme, and I've stopped and started on a list about three times now :-P I think the problem is that I have so little shame, there isn't very much I'm ashamed to say I enjoy ^_~

Everyone seen the Mission Impossible III trailer? I confess to a certain fondness for the MI movies. (May 2006 looks to be a kicking month, methinks. The Da Vinci Code and X-3 have already claimed two other weekends in that month.)

Miami Vice, on the other hand? Looks like it'll be taking itself way too seriously to be any good. I hadn't even heard they were making a Vice movie, let alone that Farrell and Foxx had taken on the main roles. That casting makes my head hurt, and I've only ever seen an ep and a half of the original show. I feel for those of you who were real fans ^_~

Happy 2006, everyone. May you be well this year, and every year after.
My Jacobs Stories cd was also here! It had kinda slid under my bed. Love it. I'm glad they keep making music, though I'd love them to get signed to a label that will let them put out a full length cd instead of these three song eps every few years. Anyhoo. Nothing as good as Unfinished Idea No. 208 on this one, but I rather like A Ghost Amongst Us. (And if you like that one, here's The Incentive)

Also - I saw [Bad username or site: jchalo / @ livejournal.com]'s post about [Bad username or site: ysi_leftovers / @ livejournal.com] like...an hour ago? And my computer is already protesting how much I've downloaded. What a fabulous idea for a community! Sure, I did see three posts in a row with Anna Nalick's Breathe, but yay for the scroll function. Such good pickings! And yay for not wasting things that take time to upload. If you're a music fiend, I heartily rec this community. I also saw some videos linked (The pilots of Fraggle Rock, and ALF - LOL. I love people.) but it seems mostly used for music.

Lastly, this Mega Holiday Mix post over in [Bad username or site: muruch / @ livejournal.com]'s music blog is awesome. Neat variety of holiday stuff.

Dude. I love the internets, I do.

In other news, I may perhaps venture outside of the house today for a pedicure. Yeah, I know. This is the same pedicure I've been debating getting since like...JULY. Only now, I might actually do it, because I won't think "But I could go to a ballgame this weekend with that money!"

My mother has, in the 40-odd hours I've been home, noted about 20 times that I lost a little weight again this semester. She is pleased, having been after me to lose weight/keep my weight down since, like, 7th grade. My father took one look at me and remarked that I looked like I had AIDS. o.O This is what happens every time I come home. My mom like "Good job, keep it off." (Whatever, Mom. I didn't do that shit on purpose. It's not like I get a kick out of being too anxious about school and my life to EAT.) My Dad like "you look sickly." Parents. And I'm supposed to be blaming the media for my self-image problems? ("You think I've got three guns in my house because the media's outside?")

...okay, I tried, but I can't resist:

The Dominican Team would rather see A-Rod play for the US than sit out the World Baseball Classic altogether.

Aw, see, Alex? People like you. They really really like you. So play in the damn games already.

ETA: Wait, so we get gay cowboys, and guys get...this? I'm amused by how, even with the lesbian angle, it still looks very much like your quintessential run of the mill chick flick. I do so love that Lifehouse song, though. And English accents. And Piper Perabo. I'm probably there.

Courtesy [Bad username or site: trailer_spot / @ livejournal.com]: The Da Vinci Code trailer. Now with actual footage from the film! Try not to snicker too loudly at the sight of Hanks. Try not to groan too loudly at the realization that Tautou's Sophie is not a redhead. Ian McKellan and Jean Reno are in this, kids. All will be well. Do not let your hearts be troubled. I think I'll re-read the book over winter break. I flew through that thing.

While Rich Harden and Huston Street may individually do nothing for me, I find myself fangirling A's reporter Mychael Urban. I'm developing such a crush. He was on MLB Radio yesterday afternoon reporting about the Bradley trade (BTW, as far as comments on the Milton Bradley deal go, HAHAHA). He brightened my day by agreeing that the Bradley deal is another sign Zito's definitely going to be around next season. And then he related how Billy Beane likes to ruin his holidays. I was amused.

[Bad username or site: bisquickgoddess / @ livejournal.com]: While I was poking around the MLB Radio archives, I saw that Erik Bedard had been on 'Players Talk' in August. Have you heard that interview?

The Yanks are courting Nomar to play first base for them. If the idea of the Trinity of old playing on the same field in the same uniform doesn't engender any kind of reaction in you at all...I really don't know what to say to you. I'm leaning towards "That would be kinda cool," even though it's the Yankees and Nomar's really fallen off. FoxSports seems to be giving the Astros the inside track at landing him though. While I'm talking about the Yanks: they told Jorge he couldn't play for Team Puerto Rico. That sucks. A-Rod seems to be making the world's biggest production out of choosing a team to play for, when everyone knows he's going to play for the Dominican, so seriously, just declare and shut up. (To be fair though, I haven't read a single one of the Who Will Alex Play For? articles, so there could be "issues" involved. But I don't really care. Declare and shut up.)

Seeing Roger Clemens in the home whites at Fenway again would be weird.

Crazy article on Urbina and his time in prison as he awaits trial in Venezuela for attempted murder.

I have nothing to say about the Orioles or guys who try to backpedal on well-publicized trade demands. (In the words of Gangstalicious: "What's done is done! Let's be solution-oriented!") There is nothing about being an Orioles fan right now that does not make me sad, sick, or tired.

Liz: I haven't forgotten about you. I hope to ysi those files to you today.

This day last year, I was at Wal-Mart at midnight to pick up the extended edition of Return Of The King. Confession: I have yet to watch/listen to any of the extras on it. Not even the cast comm. Go me.
[Bad username or site: rickenbacker / @ livejournal.com], you had me convinced the Cards had the inside track on Burnett! o.O

Jays set to announce Burnett <-- Five years, $55 million.

What the fuck, yo. It's really a sad day when I feel like we've been priced out of the free agent market by the fucking Canadians.

Anyway, my SQUEE! was curtailed yesterday by the fact that I had an exam right around the corner. I'll now take this opportunity to squee some more about the X3 trailer. Because I can. WHOO. What's that? You'd like my reaction cap by cap? I'm ALL TOO HAPPY TO OBLIGE.

(Do I need to warn this is dial-up heavy?)

They wish to cure us...but I say we *are* the cure. )

So the most interesting thing about this comment statistics thing is looking it over and realizing how many people there are that I don't ever talk to anymore yet they still rank pretty high. Also, it's funny because you think you talk to person X a ton in comments and not so much person Y, and then you roll this out and person Y has actually commented on your lj a lot more than you realized. + [Bad username or site: trailer_spot / @ livejournal.com]'s latest post has some real goodies ^_^

1.) a 10 minute Unscripted session with George Clooney and Matt Damon. It's part of the Syriana press push, but it's quite cute and amusing. So, if you're a fan of Clooney, or a fan of Damon's, or even a fan of Clooney/Damon, you should definitely download it :-P Also, Matty comes this close to saying "we're gonna raise the level of public debate in this country" - and that made me giggly.
2.) a much better quality version of the teaser trailer for the POTC sequel ^_^

ETA: Benson for Julio move considered. BWAHAHAHA. Are the Mets on crack? I mean, I would take a smile and a handshake for Julio (hell, the Mets could slap me in the face in exchange for Julio, and I'd thank them), nevermind an actual starting pitcher. Benson's the one with the stripper wife, right? I bet the Orioles Wives would love her. I'm not holding my breath that this happens, but if it did? I would die laughing.
Yoinked from [Bad username or site: trailer_spot / @ livejournal.com]: Sanaa Lathan's got a new romantic comedy coming out (trailer: Something New). Ash, Nish...thoughts? :-P That would so be my dad's nightmare. As a man who married outside his race, it amuses me that he thinks he could say anything if I did bring a white boy home. Fathers. How embarassing.

Couple interesting reads in the NYT recently.... I'm being a lazy bint without linkage but yesterday there was a fascinating story on half-siblings (the children of donor insemination) looking each other up. Awww @ the biological imperative to seek out our blood. I think it was the second most emailed story yesterday and it should still be on the list if you check. (Hello, I'm your sister. Our father is Donor 150. or something like that.) And in the entertainment section today, there's a story on the recent spat of straight actors in gay/transgendered roles (with special emphasis on PSH's work in Capote, Cillian Murphy's work in Breakfast on Pluto, and Heath and Jake in "the gay cowboy movie", which, hilariously, is totally how the article refers to BBM.)

Btw, email notification is being wonky all around, [Bad username or site: trailer_spot / @ livejournal.com]. I've left 5 comments today that haven't been emailed to me yet, and I just saw more grumbling about it from someone else on my flist.

+ Also downloaded and watched Divided We Fall....it was just like the good old days of Justice League. I don't really have much to say about it except everything's better with ample Flash. Especially when he's being a total heroic woobie. And there was some nice stuff for those of us who like the sibling vibe between Shay and Wally.

+ What else is going on with me? That's it. Two Yanks games here at OPCY next week (one with [Bad username or site: sensefille / @ livejournal.com], the other with [Bad username or site: johnnybvo / @ livejournal.com]). Three Red Sox games the weekend before the All Star Break (two with [Bad username or site: cruzalicious / @ livejournal.com]). I'm bound to see at least one win, right? A break from reading for Contracts to discover and share...

Reports have it that Tom Hanks is now the favorite to play Dr. Langdon in The Da Vinci Code. Rock. The casting rumors about Russell Crowe were making my head hurt.

The teaser trailer for Mr & Mrs Smith is wicked hot. It is sinful how beautiful those two are.

OMGYAYSQUEE alert: Teaser trailer for The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. **geeks out**

Donnie Darko star Jake Gyllenhaal was left in pain after shooting gay love scenes with Heath Ledger in new movie Brokeback Mountain. The pair play cowboys who fall in love in the western - and Gyllenhaal found the shoot particularly punishing. He says, "Heath almost broke my nose in (a kissing) scene. He grabs me and he slams me up against the wall and kisses me. And then I grab him and I slam him up against the wall and I kiss him. And we were doing take after take after take. I got the sh*t beat out of me. We had other scenes where we fought each other and I wasn't hurting as badly as I did after that one."

Boys, slash fangirls everywhere appreciate your taking one for the team. Your dedication to your craft is to be applauded.

...and now back to Contracts. Which I now have no hope of getting through because mental images of Jake and Heath making out have eaten my brain.
