I have nothing to say about the All Star Game, except:
1. I feel really bad for Dan Uggla.
2. I'm oddly proud of George Sherrill for soldiering through 2+ innings, and I hope it doesn't fuck his arm up.
3. Watching, I grew increasingly pissed at Lincecum, because gee, think the league could have used him last night? (Admittedly, this is irrational of me, if his condition was not the result of his own poor judgment, but I suspect that's a sizable if.)

People who are now, or who have ever been, into the Oakland Athletics, I have a question for you. What is your one most favorite Oakland A's-related picture/image?

eta: Or, if you can't do one, your five most favorite ;)

Not sure how I missed it, but The Oakland Tribune has up two A's slideshows from Spring Training to date. One is a Photo Day slideshow, the other is a general ST slideshow. I've clipped some of the images and added them here. (The new pics start on the 3rd row of the first page, with Adam.) It's so nice to have a bunch of pics from the camp!

My faves )
Redbirds still in the hunt, agent says: No timetable for a decision from the Mulder camp, after all, which is good. Or maybe not good. I guess the idea was to force the teams interested in him put offers on the table already. Or maybe he was going to decide but now wants to give Arizona more time to figure how much they want him. Meh. I'll just finish working on my paper then, thanks. Boys.

A Cardinal the past two seasons, Mulder will marry Lindsey Pringle this afternoon in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Lindsey? lol, Brianna. Elena. I am oddly proud of him. There is a world of difference between marrying a blonde named Amber and marrying a blonde named Lindsey. (I am judgmental about the most random things, and I know I made a face when I heard 'Amber' for the first time.) But I approve of Lindseys, generally. Way to be, Mark. Hope things work out for you, even with the repression and all.

Huddy's in AZ for the wedding, which fills me with little hearts. I'll just entertain myself with the thought that the stutter re-emerged (pre-wedding jitters, don't you know) and got one last sendoff ^_~

"You can sign the President's name?"
"Yeah."
"On a document removing him from power and handing it to someone else?"
"Yeah. Or do you think the White House Counsel would say that was a bad idea?"
"I think the White House Counsel would say that was a coup d'etat."

John Spencer died a year ago today. I had him on the brain all this week, and I wasn't really sure why especially now, and it just finally came to me. I read somewhere that John Spencer once said that Leo was the best character he ever played, that Leo was real to him in a way he hadn't experienced as an actor before. I was so happy to hear that. I loved Leo, so I loved John for bringing him to life. When John died, Leo died, and I really felt like I'd personally lost someone.

Of her many transgressions, Mr. President, let's not worry about she resorted to cliche. )

Ah. Off to papering.

Is it just me, or does it make anyone else uncomfortable when you're talking to someone on IM, or exchanging emails, and said person starts C&Ping you snippets of conversations they've had with someone else? I'm not talking funny-haha quotable stuff that was said. I've noticed it with a lot of people in the past 3 or 4 months that I've dallied back into spending time on IM services. So many of my friends seem to do this, without compunction, that I wonder if I'm off base in feeling that there's something wrong with such a practice. If I'm having a conversation with you, I kind of expect it to stay between me and you, at least insofar as exactly what I said. It doesn't bother me if a friend is having trouble with a mutual friend and she explains to me, in her words, a conversation they recently had or something. But when she just wants to C&P huge chunks of a conversation I was not privy to as it was happening...it kinda squicks me. And of course, then it makes me paranoid, because I start to wonder how many things I've said in IM conversations have gone out in emails or been C&P'd to someone else, completely sans the context in which I said those things. I guess it's silly to think there's anything like an expectation of privacy, but at the same time, I don't really feel like I should have to start every IM conversation with a disclaimer, all "alright, before I start talking to you, I'd just like to know that whatever comes up in this conversation isn't gonna get pasted into an email and forwarded to 3 or 4 people."

I dunno. Is this a gender thing? I was thinking the other day that I have more female friends now than I have ever had in my life, and I just don't remember talking so much about people/drama such that the issue would even come up when I was friends with more guys.

Oh, well. Moving on:

Gallery of some pics from yesterday's game here. Decided against the game tonight, gas money instead to be put towards some tickets in DC ^_~

And I was wrong, btw - EB (hahahaha!) didn't set a career high in strike-outs last night. He set a season-high, and matched his career high. Also, I heard this fairly interesting stat on ESPN Radio this morning: Bedard is the first pitcher since 1918 to, in consecutive starts, end an opposing team's winning streak of 8 games or more. He stopped the Marlins at 9 games, and the start before that, he ended the 8 game winning streak of the New York Mets.

Speaking of the Mets, how about that Jose Reyes? XD

+ For anyone who's interested, I uploaded the pics I took at the Pride parade and blockparty last Saturday. Gallery here. I was there with a friend who had a shift at the Planned Parenthood table, so while she was working, I mostly people watched. And sweated. But it was fun times.

+ Gallery of pics from last night's very awesome game here. While the game was very fun, the pics aren't much to write home about; RFK was a much easier stadium to get good shots at, I thought. I could get closer to the field and the players - at OPCY the rows closest to the field were roped off behind the batting cage, dugouts and basically the inside of the diamond. Which meant you could really only get decent shots of the guys in the outfield. Meh. Better luck tonight, hopefully.

++ game stuff )

Thrilled to get home in time to hear them FINALLY getting spoken of well on Baseball Tonight (they scored the #1 webgem of the night on Cody Ross' lovely sliding catch, which segued into a bunch of other defensive highlights from the game) and they even got a little shout out on Mike & Mike this morning. Tonight it'll be Ricky Nolasco v. Erik Bedard as the Marlins try to make it 10 in a row. **crosses fingers**

eta: Oh! And in other baseball news, Mark Mulder got killed AGAIN. Nine earned runs in under 3 innings, this time. And I'd say there's a story there, but the Cardinals announcers beat me to it, because these last few starts, they can't stop talking about how whatever the problem is, it's all in his head.

edit 2: Double oh! I couldn't get a pic of it, because of the damn usher, but Amezaga and Miggy Cabrera totally danced in the dugout before the game again! And for the record, Amezaga was clearly "the woman." Miggy picked him up at one point, and spun him, and then dipped him. XD

So, on my birthday, someone gifted me with an LJ gift certificate. I didn't say anything at the time, because I thought it was [Bad username or site: johnnybvo / @ livejournal.com], and I was going to see him the next day anyway. But when he and I met up for breakfast, he gave me a hardback of Runaways, volume 1, (which I'm insanely excited about, btw, because I fell in love with the art in that title ages ago), so it must have been someone else. I'm not gonna ask who, since I guess the fact that you sent it anonymously means you don't want me to know, but thank you so much! It was very sweet of you, and I really appreciate it.

Can't hang around long (**ignores cheers from peanut gallery**); have to gather up my things and get back to VA, but:

+ a handful of screencaps from the last few innings of yesterday's LAD @ OAK game. Because I have this thing where I'm as amused by a blown Huston save as I am pleased with an Oakland win, and last night provided both.

And, MLB.com's highlight clip of Crosby's at bat and the walk off:

(asf - 3mbs)

(wmv - 3mbs)

The Marlins swept Toronto, bringing their winning streak to 8 games. If Atlanta loses tonight, the Marlins will be out of last place in the NL East. And because I make no sense, I now begin to feel bad for the Braves, even though I'd be thrilled for someone other than the Fish to finish last in the East, and all the Braves have done for the past 8 years is annoy me. **laughs** What can I say. I like to make my fandom a complicated thing.

Gallery of some of the pics I took at the game last night. I really need curb my shakes, or invest in an image stablizer already. All my Willy T pics from when he was signing came out blurry, as did all my stalkeriffic pics of Munson in the bullpen. ALAS. But a gold star to the person could can explain to me what the hell is wrong with Ryan Zimmerman.

Before uploading, I dropped the resolution on my pics from 230 pixels/inch to 96; if you want the original higher res image of any of the pics for some reason, just let me know.

What is with MLB.com and all this performance and music related crap now? What makes TPTB think I go to mlb.com to hear the latest in music releases? This kind of pollution of my sports fandom annoys me. Someone make it stop.

Is it "Sar-los", "Sar-lose", "Sar-loose", or none of the above?

+ Saw this on [Bad username or site: featureannounce / @ livejournal.com]: Worked on adding integrated instant messaging

Um...what? I'm sorry. Did a note go out that I don't spend enough time on LJ? Also, how is that even gonna work? Actually, don't tell me. I don't want to know.

+ Summer plans are beginning to get nailed down, so hopefully I'll stop feeling all anti-social and bitchy all the damn time. That would be great.

+ Did you see the reception Team Cuba got when they returned? **laughs** It was like a World Series parade. I love it.

+ Someone on my f-list was looking for Natalie's My Skin yesterday. I didn't make a note of who, and of course, now I can't remember. So I'm just gonna post it here, in case it's still needed: Natalie Merchant - My Skin.

+ Frankenstein music meme, snurched from [Bad username or site: jchalo / @ livejournal.com]. I didn't take the prompts too literally, because I'm difficult that way.
Tracklist: senses ) Oh, don't bother with those, kids. SS has decided to join YSI in being wonky and annoying. **shakes them** Damn you, free services! Why will you not work? **pimp-slaps** Working now. Whoo!

+ [Bad username or site: teenagewildlife / @ livejournal.com] shared some pics of herself as a youngin a few days ago, which reminded me that I had a handful of old pics sitting on my bookshelf. I think I shared some of these before, but my f-list was mostly different at that time, I think.

mini me! )

ETA: Sori totally caved.
+ [Bad username or site: __dtrain / @ livejournal.com]'s okay! I'm so happy. I wasn't like, worried worried, because I'd heard a lot of people down in FL lost power and stuff, but it's still good to hear from her ^_^

+ [Bad username or site: trailer_spot / @ livejournal.com] has links to 14 GOF clips if you're into that kinda thing. They're linked in this post. I actually haven't seen a single clip of footage from the film besides what's in the trailers, and I think I'm gonna keep it that way, with the movie right around the corner now.

By the by, a bunch of us are getting together tonight at [Bad username or site: sensefille / @ livejournal.com]'s place for COS. We watched Sorcerer's Stone last weekend. I can't believe people could be soliciting legal advice from us in 2 years :-P We also went to see a screening of ET last night, and can I just say? The scene at the end where ET asks Elliot to come and Elliot, trying to hold back tears, says he has to stay? I LOVE THAT SCENE. Also, I am a girl. That is all.

+ After going almost 2 years without really fucking with it like that, I've been spending a crazy amount of time on AIM lately. Even though it kinda makes me feel a little shady, I am completely in love with the ability to IM while remaining "away" to the rest of your buddy list. I never got the hang of the visible/invisible thing, and this is way easier. The thing that always used to drive me nuts about IM was that I would rarely be in the mood to talk to more than one person at a time, but it's like the second you'd come from being away, you'd get avalanched. That doesn't happen anymore, so AIM stresses me out less, and that's of the good.

+ I bought Trisha's new album, Jasper County. I almost opened it, but then I decided to download the tracks and give it a listen online, so I could take the cd back if I wasn't crazy about it. I'm glad I did that, because while, after so long, I'm really happy to hear new stuff from her, I didn't think there was a single keeper on the album. I think Try Me and Who Invented The Wheel were probably my favorite tracks if I had to pick some, but overall...meh. I'm not holding it against her though; while she was putting this together, she was way busy being in love with Garth Brooks, a venture I wholeheartedly support :-P

+ [Bad username or site: bisquickgoddess / @ livejournal.com] did a Goodbye Baseball picspam the other day. I have no intention of saying goodbye to baseball, especially since [Bad username or site: rickenbacker / @ livejournal.com] and I have, like, 5 years of Oakland A's pitching history to absorb in the next 4 months :-P But I did get a few pictures developed from this summer, and there were some from a few ballgames I went to, so I figured I'd toss up some random shots. (Sadly, my roll of film from the NYY, Jays, and Indians games must be back in MD, which is too bad, because those had pics from some games we actually WON.)

Supposedly the Orioles But Really More of a RedSox!picspam )

+ [Bad username or site: offspeed / @ livejournal.com] spoils me, really.

I cannot get out of bed this morning! I've been staring at the clock since almost 3:30. Maybe I need to call Miggy up, since he's apparently the area B12 distributor and shit. Hook a sister up, man. On the plus side, I did manage to find a working torrent of Extras. So, yes.

Anyhoo. Brian was voted the Most Valuable Oriole. He gamely showed up to accept the award (well, disgustingly gaudy pendant), rather than pretending he never got their messages. Good kid, that Brian Roberts. And he brought his tongue, for old times sakes. )

Yes, he showed up in Yankee colors, but we're gonna pretend it's cause he was too doped up on pain meds to notice.

Meanwhile, Joe Torre blew out his bullpen last night and the Yanks still lost. I'd like to send a big fuck you out to Greeny who gave the Devil Rays a shot at winning a game in their series, the Jays a shot at winning a game in their series, but was pretty confident the Yanks would sweep easily in Baltimore. That's why your football team has no quarterback, asshat. And cheers to that NYY fan who tried to swipe the ball out of Newhan's glove after he robbed Sheffield of a third homer. Way to be. I didn't see if he got kicked out the ballpark. I hope he was.

Where was I going with this? Oh yeah. This image of A-Rod cracks my shit up. Could it be anymore iconable? )

And Jeff? Apparently, the weird ass Timlin/Ortizzle manhug is a regular thing? Cause Yahoo had this up from the daygame yesterday )

It remains no less wtf-worthy.

I really, really need to be at the library right now.
